New Asus Eee Seashell Features 11.6-Inch Screen and 11-Hour Battery
We loved Asus' super-slim Eee Seashell, and it looks like Asus can see they might have a hit on their hands. In Asus' mind, that means it's time to bring on the new models, and the first seems to be an 11.6-inch Seashell with an alleged 11-hour battery life. More » -

Asus Eee Getting an Optical Drive?
According do DigiTimes, the upcoming Asus Eee E1004DN will be the first Eee netbook to include an optical drive when it hits in mid-April overseas for about $550. Every time I fly, I'm amazed by how many people I see watching DVDs (not just digital files) on their laptops. The 10-Hour Asus Eee: Big, Bad and Fugly
I'd thought that the 7800mAh battery for the MSI Wind was absurd, but one netbook fan got his hands on a $62 12000mAh battery for his Asus Eee. Ooohhhh: $200 Eee PCs Next Year?
On a recent earnings call, Asus explained some of their plans going into 2009. The big one? The company expects to have a $200 entry level Eee PC—which we assume has no Windows. But that $200 announcement is even more interesting when coupled with another announcement—Asus intends to phase out all 7" and 8.9" models for 10" netbooks. So will the smaller systems go for $200, or will we see a $200 10" netbook in 2009? I guess we'll have to wait to find out. [Digitimes] -

How To Hack an Eee PC and Install It in Your Car Dashboard
One of the great things about netbooks like the Eee PC is all of the potential for modification. This particular hack comes to us via a Russian Eee PC 701 owner who managed to turn it into a carputer for his Honda Fit. With the monitor in the dash and a wireless keyboard in the glovebox, the Eee PC transforms into an XP-driven media device with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and (most likely) GPS. By the looks of things, making this hack work in your vehicle will be no easy task—and there isn't much to go on besides a series of photos that outline the build process. Still, if you are willing to give it a try, the images are available in the link. [Photofile and eee.pc.ru via Liliputing] -

Touchscreen Eee PC Due Early 2009, Will Run Windows 7 Later Says Asus CEO
After the DIY options, and initial hints, official word is out that there'll be a touchscreen Eee PC next year. And that's from none other than the CEO, Jerry Shen, himself. The guys over at Laptopmag got the low-down from Shen, who confirmed the machine will exist by "early 2009," and will actually be running Windows 7 by mid 2009. That's pretty interesting stuff, and though he wouldn't specify a form factor for the touchy Eee, Shen also spilled the beans on a few other aspects of the Eee success story. More »
