110-inch "World's Largest" HDTV Now For Sale

JVC's monster 110-inch hybrid-tech HDTV is now available for sale. Yep, get your credit card ready and sit the kids down, as they're not getting help paying for college anymore. This $53,000 behemoth is a whopping 8 feet wide and 3 feet deep, featuring a 1080p picture (for that much it'd better be 1080p), and multiple inputs including HDMI, Component, D4, S-Video and a D-sub15 pin socket for your PC.

Sure, $53,000 is an insane amount to spend on a TV, but think of how sick Gears of War would look on this thing.

  • Um, couldn't you buy a sexy 50" Sony SXRD for every room and closet of your house for that much?

  • GOW won't look any better on this than any other good HDTV... if you get too close you will still see "pixels", and if you have to sit 50 ft away you might as well get a smaller monitor.

Still can't look as good as a full-rez PC monitor :-)

  • And my friend's cheap Optoma projector for $499 looks great and expands to a huge size (I think right now it actually is around 8ft.) I'm sure it's not the best projector, but $499 is almost an impulse buy as far as HD projectors are concerned. Granted, it's not 1080p, but seriously, who really cares for that price. I'll take the "i" for 499 thank you.

  • Ah yes but will it blend?

  • That's re-donk-ulous. Why not just build a dedicated home theater room w/a projector?
I suppose, while my impala gets me where I want to go, if I had the coin, I could buy a Lamborghini.
    Just silly IMO.

    @homer_s

    *SIGH*

"The phrase Will it blend? has become an internet meme on sites such as Digg. Dickson has revealed that the campaign has been a great success for Blendtec:

The campaign took off almost instantly. We have definitely felt an impact in sales. Will it Blend has had an amazing impact to our commercial and our retail products."

So not only is "Will it blend" the current most troll-like phrase anyone can possibly post, it qualifies as SPAM, since it's just an ad campaign for some company. Do they pay you? Does anyone enjoy the hollow, cliche, "will it blend" posts? Would you consider saying things like, "Just do it" or "Have it your way" or "apply directly to the forehead"?? why not? it's all marketing. I've not once seen it said in a way that was actually humorous. Just a bunch of mouth-breathers with nothing to say who insist on doing so regardless.

  • Where the hell would you put 3 of these things for Forza 2?

    God... I wish.

  • "That's re-donk-ulous. Why not just build a dedicated home theater room w/a projector?"

Agreed. An awesome 1080p projector will run you 3-4K. Get you a good screen designed for a low-lit room (so you don't always have to be pitch black). Add your speakers and supporting electronics and you're still not even at a quater of the price of this mammoth.

  • Ahh. The smell of hot, overloaded amperage house electrical wiring.

  • @Nutbastard:
Whoa, don't burst a blood vessel. You're just feeding the trolls by leaving a 150 word response to a 6 word comment. It may encourage the sadists among us - I know somebody out there finds it wildly amusing to drive you nuts using only a simple meme.

About the TV: *shrug* eh, I've seen bigger ;)

  • @nutbastard:

Can you imagine a Beowulf cluster of these?

  • Yeah $53,000 is a good start to building a home theater wing onto your house, complete with concession stand.

look im pretty sure most of the people who say it don't realize they are shilling for BlendTec. hopefully they realize their tool-like status, become ashamed and knock it off.

i dont think you can apply the term beowolf cluster to TVs. but you could say, "Can you imagine a huge fuck cluster of these things"

    yes. I can. (???)

  • but will it blend?

  • Or you can just play Gears of War on a projector for a fraction of the cost.

  • @nutbastard via aestheticity:

SEE! Told you so. People don't seem to care that they are shills and tools either due to ignorance or, like I said the first time, due to an out of place sense of sadism and self-amusement.

"If its funny the first time, it must be funny every time after that, right? right?!?!"

  • Just buy one of these projectors and turn the lights out.

  • While it is a nifty TV, I'd rather get a $25K Sony Qualia projector or something of that nature. I don't think any $5K or less projector looks that good - dim, blurry, keystoning blah blah blah - may not have all of those issues but I've yet to see one that performs nearly as well as a $20K projector.

  • Speaking of tired memes... in Zoviet Amerika, 110-inch TV watches you.

  • " I don't think any $5K or less projector looks that good - dim, blurry, keystoning blah blah blah - may not have all of those issues but I've yet to see one that performs nearly as well as a $20K projector."

First, sony doesn't even make the Qualia anymore. It's been replaced by the equally good Ruby and Pearl that cost $4.5-6.5k. The only consumer level projectors in the $25k range are 3 chip DLP projectors which are a rip of compared to the JVC-RS1. Second, read the reviews of the JVC-RS1.

  • Actually, jahknow, you're thinking of 1984 by George Orwell where the huge wall mounted TVs actually did watch the people.

  • Not sexy enough methinks.
