This Sony LT HD PC/TV makes its mark as a mini home theater with its Blu-ray drive on board as well as a CableCard slot. But that Blu-ray drive not only plays back HD movies on the PC's 22-inch widescreen, but can also record 50 gigs of sweet HD on a single disk. It has a lot more that'll turn it into a space-saving entertainment center, too.

It's a TV as much as it is a Core 2 Duo PC, and you can turn on and off the TV without waiting for that PC to boot. If you don't want to spend $2900 on all that fancy HD stuff, there is an LT standard model that costs $1900, and doesn't have that Blu-ray drive on board. Now if Sony could just take this technology and put it into a quiet home theater PC with HDMI outputs, we would be first in line. [Sony]

Finally someone in Sony put it together: "hey boss get this, Bravia+Vaio+Bluray."
Boss:"Yeah, we could paint it brown and call it the 'Motorstorm Edition' at a premium."
Looks like an iMac without a double-chin. :))
A 22" widescreen Core 2 Duo PC for fucking $1900?!
That's almost twice what you pay for a low-end Macbook with 13" and a Core 2 Duo.
And 1k for a Blu-Ray drive and some HDMI output? What.The.Fuck.
@Rain-man: Doesn't look anything like an imac...
@Hvedhrungr:
How can you compare a TV/PC with a laptop? I have a macbook, and I see no TV tuner in sight? I see no HDMI nor do I see any HD-format drive on-board. The higher spec'd (white) macbook is $1,200. If you added a Blu-Ray drive and a TV Tuner you'd spend around this same amount of money, and still only have the 13" display.
CableCard slots are expensive too...
o i get it , so they copied apple, yes? no, i don't believe they did, apple was not the first to have an integrated LCD display and computer, i saw a gateway with that in like 2001, now before you say anything, the second gen imac did not have the computer in the screen, it was in the base.
Also, how many ways can you change the way an all in one computer looks nowadays? it's just thinner, how much chin to leave, an the color scheme. I love apple, i would never buy any other computer; but this is a far cry from plagiarism
I completely agree with Kaiser-Machead. There is not a single mac with hd hard media support (unless ou count mounting a blu ray drive into a mac pro). If i didn't love the mac os so much i'd tap that in a second
These all in one vaios are awesome looking. My favorite Sony TVs are the Bravias w/the glass bezel, and this is just so stylish as a computer. Yes, it's priced higher because it's sony, but you get style with that premium and that's worth it to some people (myself included)
It's an all-in-one, just because imac is also doesn't mean it's a bite.
@AznSmith: funny you should mention the 2G imac because the screen (only) part of it had a clear (plastic) frame around it like this one. It's the only similarity though.
My only gripe w/ this unit is the size, I would've loved to have seen a 26" or 30". That would IMO be a better fit for the TV/MC crowd.
AM I the only one who doesn't get Sony's keyboards? I mean...I like most everything else they do. They're keyboards seem to be going for a certain look...I don't get.
@Kaiser-Machead: The USB TV tuner I have for my MacBook only cost $100. And it's great.
@AznSmith: I don't think that was Hvedhrungr's point. I think he was saying it was expensive.
However, I think this is a very viable competitor to the iMac, with even more capabilities. And I'm a self-proclaimed Apple fanboy.
*sigh* Oh, how I wish Blu-ray was included in the new iMac...
I'm sure it will be available in a short period of time with other upgrades, and it will be less expensive. Apple has the tendency of laughing in the face of early adopters, and yet I continue to be one.
@rcarydon: I just don't like the extra folding flaps they put on a few of the keyboards, particularly their older Vaio all-in-one.
@jawzxy: Yeah, I know about the TV tuner (I plan on getting one), but to fully simulate the media experience of this all-in-one, you still need to buy the external display to get the real estate, and then buy the Blu-Ray drive, which, last I checked, is around $600 alone.
@AZNSMITH - um, in all honesty the 20th Anniversary Macintosh was introduced in 1997 and is responsible for a number of all-in-one design cues.
More here: [lowendmac.com]
For the introductory 1997 price of $7,499, that included "valet service setup"
@AznSmith: Now, I know this may have been before you were born (snark): [en.wikipedia.org]
But Apple's been doing the whole "all-in-one" computer thing for some time now. CRT versus LCD is really more a matter of practicality since LCDs didn't exist in an addressable array form until the late 80's.
Sony copies Apple's design aesthetic all the time. The new Sony notebooks are starting to use keyboards nearly identical to the MacBooks. Hrrrmmm...
Plus (and this is from first-hand experience maintaining a friend's office full of these d@mn things), Sony's systems are a nightmare of custom drivers, hardware quirks and "Sony Made" crapware. One could say the same of iLife, but honestly... iLife rulez.
So, yeah... gimme a 24" iMac with a copy of MediaCentral any day over this wannabe lump of plastic.
@Levendis47: "Sony copies Apple's design aesthetic all the time. The new Sony notebooks are starting to use keyboards nearly identical to the MacBooks. Hrrrmmm..." Are you being sarcastic here, or is this what you honestly believe?
Does anyone find it extremely funny that every tech gadget w/some style nowadays has every apple fanboy screaming plagiarism?... please, go get a life.
This isn't the first Sony integrated computer. They had a line of these before AAPL was even a blip on the fcking radar. Now I have nothing against AAPL and I could care less about Sony, but the energy you 've been putting into this debate is futile.
Bottom line - if you have the money and like the looks of this pc, buy the damn thing. All other opinions can pretty much just suck it.
As if Sony wasn't content with dominating the living room during the last generation of video game consoles with the PS2, the Japanese electronics giant attempts to outmuscle the Xbox 360 with their PS3 effort, but so far that attempt is a stuttering one at best despite packing in the most...
