Sprint's Rev 3 EV-DO, Gizmodo's Internet IV during CES, is getting another upgrade. Firstly, those express cards we told yas about are now official under the Novatel EX720 moniker. Even better, the speeds are getting all jacked up, hitting 600 kbps to 1.4 mbps for downloads and 350-500 mbps kbps for uploads. That means you'll get your bittorrented porn even faster while using your laptop on the highway, and other than the increased accident rates I see no downside to that.
Other Sprint EV-DO news includes our friends in Portland, OR, Miami, and Puerto Rico all getting to join the fun and new GPS capabilities. Oh Sprint, you had me at increased download speeds.

solid.
350-500 kbps :)
For a moment, i was thinking of an EVDO based datacenter...
Will this effect my Sprint 700p (EVDO) in any way?
I didn't mind the slow speeds of Sprint's internet access as much as I did all the caching and image compression they do. It totally cramps my style to view the web in 40%-compressed JPEG files.
Well, not being american myself, and having not much clue on CDMA networks, i have a question:
Is Rev A EV-DO something like 3G, or more like a faster GPRS (EDGE like)?
Cause those seem pretty low specs to be bragging about. 3G here in europe is up to 3.6Mbps...
Am i getting this all wrong?
What about us poor bastards who are still waiting on Rev. 0?
Drezio:
EV-DO and HSDPA are the closest we've got to 3G here in the States; the former is supported by CDMA providers like Verizon and Sprint while the latter is supported by the GSMs, T-Mobile and Cingular.
Wow, then it sucks to be in the US where mobile communications are related.
Vodafone is already announcing the 7.2Mbps express card. Actually it's already on sale, but the network is still limited to 3.6Mbps. Sometime this year we'll get the jump up.
Yea, the US is always behind when it comes to technology...but at least we are finally getting a ton of Rev A coverage (up to 3.1Mbps down) thanks to Sprint. They claim they will have the entire network REV A by the end of 2007. We will see! You can get the EX720 for $50 less here: http://moremobileinternet.com/ex720 and it even works on Macs!
