Samsung's long-linger F700/u940, has been rumored to hit the big V for a while, but Phone Area's reporting that it's now locked and cocked in Verizon's internal InfoManager as the Glyde, though sans date or price. Spec sheet confirms cam's cut to a paltry 2MP but all the old specs look otherwise intact, but with added goodness of EV-DO, and Verizon's usual scarlet bag of tricks like VCAST and VZNavigator. Samsung F700 (U940) Touchscreen Phone FCC Approved

The Samsung F700, or U940, has just been FCC-approved, meaning that it's going to make its way to Verizon really really soon. We don't have full specs yet, but it seems that the 5-megapixel camera has been cut down to 2-megapixels, but the 150MB of internal memory and microSD slot remains. It doesn't look like it's much of a smartphone, but that might be a good thing. [Phonemag]

Verizon's F700 Variant Could Actually Be the Samsung SCH-U940

Last week we mentioned a rumor that a variant of the Samsung F700 could make its way on the Verizon network sometime in the near future. Today, another rumor from Phone Arena has determined that the variant is actually the Samsung SCH-U940, and it is set to make its official debut sometime in the next few months. Details are scarce but word on the street is that the U940 will feature a 440x240 pixel touch screen, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, and a 2 MP camera downgrade from the 3MP version found on the F700. We went a bit moist and gooey earlier this year when we saw Samsung's F700 in Barcelona. Now the touch-screen smartphone with 3-megapixel camera and QWERTY keyboard has got a release date in Europe and a carrier: November; and Vodafone. Samsung Reveals its Latest Premium Internet ready 3G Broadband (HSDPA) Handset - F700
Intuitive touch screen technology for enhanced multimedia capabilities

Seoul, September 13, 2007 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading mobile phone and telecommunication equipment provider announced the SGH-F700, an elegant phone for the European market with Vodafone, the world's largest mobile community. The phone was first introduced at 3GSM World Congress in February earlier this year and is expected to be available in Europe beginning early November. It delivers 3.6 Mbps data speeds under Vodafone's 3G broadband (HSDPA) network allowing users to experience fast access to the Internet and faster music downloads. Using the new F700, business and creative professionals are able to view content on a 3.2" stunning color display. The device features first class entertainment with a top-of-the-line auto focus 3 mega-pixel camera and 3.6 Mbps HSDPA capabilities, making it easier to watch videos, listen to songs, take high-quality photos, browse the Internet, or catch up on email while on the move. The F700 features new user interface which has been award iF Communication Design Award 2007. Samsung F700 Touch Smartphone Up Close and Greasy

Vincent over at Slashgear has a large hands-on with the Samsung F700 sliding smartphone (see comparison). The phone itself had a really good keypad and has great tactile feedback, but Vincent thinks the OS was locked because Samsung didn't want people viewing the un-finished product just yet.

Apple iPhone vs. Samsung F700: Which is Touchscreenier?

Apple's iPhone may have been announced first, but Samsung's Ultra Smart F700 (announced yesterda) seems to be one-up Apple's effort in a few feature categories.

If you'll take a little journey with me, we'll compare the iPhone and the F700 and see which one comes out on top—on paper.

So it seems like although Samsung's F700 has more megapixels, a little bit more format support, an actual keyboard, and 3G connectivity, the iPhone has it beat on screen size/resolution, HTML Email, storage, widgets, google maps, and push email. Plus, of course, the whole built-in iPod thing.

Samsung F700 Smartphone Looks Awfully Familiar

If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck it must be a duck, right? Not necessarily. Samsung has announced one diddy of a new smartphone, the F700. This phone is part of Samsung's Ultrasmart series of phones and carries the fullscreen touch-screen interface that is becoming very popular as of late.

Samsung is also trying to one up its competitor with one specific feature...

... a slide out full-QWERTY keyboard. From the pictures here it seems that the addition of a slide-out keyboard didn't make the phone necessarily bulky like other QWERTY-sliders have.

Other features include 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 2.78-inch touchscreen display, pretty Samsung interface (designed by Adobe) and the usual slew of media features like a video and music player. I'm not going to lie, this little diddy catches my eye more than that other thing out there. –Travis Hudson
