WTF? OK, I am not sold on this, but according to the story, a guy who just bought an iPod touch wrote to sjobs@apple.com with complaints about lack of games support, hi-res photo syncing, disk mode, notes storage, add/edit calendar entry and more. The strange thing is, sjobs@apple.com wrote back.
Here's the full reply, plus the opening segment of the original letter:
Not only does he say "nothing can be done about the games" which is a little definitive, he also says that the "inability to edit or add calendar events is a bug." That sounds like all too much of an admission, but I'm aware that, like Henry V, Steve I does like to mingle with his vassals from time to time, so we need your help in calling BS—or not. I call BS! That handwriting is definitely not Steve-o's!
BS. I think Steve Jobs would have a more appropriate email, like iGod@apple.com. I bet the steve jobs this guy emailed is some intern in the mail department with the same name as the iCreator.
@monkichi: I don't know what you're smoking.... where the hell do you see ANY SORT OF handwriting? It's a friggin email!
Everyone knows that Steve uses Comic Sans, not Helvetica. I too call BS.
Maybe I'm expecting too much, but the straight "nothing can be done" opening seems little to harsh for Jobs. I guess I would at least expect something along the lines of "Thanks for buying the iPod Touch and I'm sorry that it fell short of your expectations. Let me explain a few things..."
Granted, it's not like I have any first hand knowledge of Steve I, but he seems like he has too much charm and awareness to be this blunt.
my two cents.
@monkichi:
ROFL!
Harry Crumb is on the case!
"You catch the guy with that crasy typewriter and you'ev got your man!"
it's not BS but it's not Jobs, either. i have previously read that sjobs@apple.com and steve@mac.com are email addys that are answered by high level PR or CS employees.
It's likely an alias that gets sent to customer service. There's no way that it's that easy to contact Steve Jobs.
Though the "Best, Steve" sounds like the work of a CEO.
yeah like they comment in future products....
Trick question...Jobs is BS =p
Just messin' around guys, I swear.
why doesnt gizmodo repeat the email and see if they get the same response back? i would, but i don't care.
Everyone knows that Steve only replies in a helvetica font type.
@methodlimp: Please tell me you're joking..?
its not bs and it very well might be steve. if you write an email to him (i didnt think it was sjobs, just steve) with a question he thinks deserves an answer, he will email you back with an answer. ive seen it before, and my regional manager at the apple store has said that to me before, verbatim. some of the employees at the store have in fact worked with steve over email to settle a few customer issues.
i wouldnt be surprised in the least if this was completely true.
Incoming consumerist post about how they've discovered the top secret email format to reach Apple execs.
The address may be valid, most companys do use that format even for their CEO's. However all CEO's have assistants that process their email before the CEO ever reads it.
sjobs@apple.com is actually an employee by the name of Shawn Jobston who works in facilities maintenance
I've emailed sjobs@apple.com and received a response. I'm pretty sure It's either steve's assistant or steve's assistant filter steve's email and sends him important ones.
the apple employee naming scheme is first.last@apple.com

anyway - nice stache
I call BS.
Everyone knows Steve uses his free Hotmail account for all important emails.
BS.
Everyone knows Steve uses his free Hotmail account for all important emails.
@MTOPPER: 86ed
@eighteesix: in accordance to article 86 of the New York state liquor code
i'd say that it's probably not true that it's a "bug," or apple has a very poor QC department to not have noticed the flaw.
Hopefully, this is an idication that they realized such a nerf was uncalled for and stuipd, and cost them potential sales ( like mine. )
If this is indeed fixed by the time I have money, it'll make it tough for me to decide between zune 2 and ipod touch. I like the Zune better overall (Radio makes a BIG difference,) but the protable calender and touch interface are both very handy to have, not to mention the wifi interenet nonsense.
Of course it's not Steve... He'd be replying from his iPhone, and the email would be more like:
David,
Noting cam be dome abiut the games. Tje new iPod gouch is a compleety dioffernt animal indide thab the old iPods anf the gajes just dint tranlater. The unability to edit or ad calendat evbnts is a bog thst will be fized in a fture softwaee updat.
Brst,
Strve
@eighteesix
when i worked at apple the email address scheme was jdoe@apple.com -- i don't know where your information came from, but john.doe@apple.com hasn't been that way in the past 5 years.
@methodlimp: reeeelax bro, i think, i hope, i pray that the comment was a joke.
It may actually be Stevie-J but a BUG?! He REALLY doesn't respect the average joe (or david lol). If that's a bug I wouldn't want to see a security exploit on that device!
They left it out -plain & simple. The bad press was so much that they've decided to put it back in..bug! As if!
@dragonphyre: Now that's comedy!
hahahaha Dragonphyre... good one!
C'mon people, it certainly isn't Steve himself replying to this. It might be an assistant. But it's most likely just a fabrication by "some guy" (ie the guy who submitted this).
First, Steve sure as hell doesn't have the time or inclination to respond directly to random emails from the public. He's a little more savvy than that. He has people for that.
Second, the lack of calendar entry certainly isn't a bug. That's bull. They don't leave out an entire major feature by mistake. This is Apple we're talking about, not Meizu.
Third, no one at Apple is going to give out "secret" info like what their plans (or lack thereof) for iPhone games are, or what major bugs they've found that they haven't yet told the public about.
Finally, they will certainly develop (or port) games to the iPhone and Touch. Why the hell wouldn't they??
Steve Jobs is way too big of an a**hole to take the time to do this.
And yes, he is a complete and total a**hole.
@Dragonphyre....funny, I suppose, except that on an actual iPhone, it would be a lot harder to type what you showed rather than typing it correctly, since it is spell correcting on the fly.
Maybe it would have been cleverer if you simulated a spell corrector that guessed wrong? You kinda started off that way (using real words, but wrong words), but then lost it...
Someone please explain to me why everyone is assuming that David Early didn't just spoof or otherwise fabricate the reply message? Everyone seems focussed on interns, admin assistants or the possibility of a legitimate response. The first question should be, Who is David Early and why do you trust him that this message was real?
I call BS. Looks like a NetAdmin is making use of his spare time and privilages.
Steve Jobs is way too big of an a**hole to take the time to do this.
Is this based on the typical hater mindset, where you already formed an opinion, and any evidence that contradicts that opinion you simply discard as being false? (it's called confirmation bias: [xkcd.com] )
I e-mailed the President about Iraq and this is the e-mail I got back:
From: George Bush
Subject: Re: The Iraq thingy
Date: 10-07-07 08:34:32 PM EST
To: David Flores
Yeah, sorry. That Iraq thing was a big mistake. Should'a though it through a little more closely. Looked like a bunch of easy oil. Bust up OPEC. Permanent bases next door to Iran. What's not to,like? WMDs pretty much completely beside the point, would'a been nice if we'd found something, though... LOL! Oops, gotta go... Cheney's calling. See ya.
@eighteesix:
When I was at Apple, my email address was first initial, last name @apple.com
@Geisrud: I call BS. Did you look this up in an internal directory?
On the subject of the validity of this email, it has to be BS. It is part of Apple Policy to not comment on reasons why features are not in products, and not to comment on possible future revisions or updates. This is also standard practice for El Jobso himself. Try calling and asking someone about whether Games will be available in the future for iPhone. They'll probably tell you something like, "We don't know until it happens."
if the reply wasn't along the lines of "the iPod will have games and calendar editing when I damn well tell it to do so", then I'd say its a fake
@David Flores:
FAKE! too many coherent sentences to be the real Bush.
@MSFTH8R:
I think mine was the same ("first initial""last name"@apple.com no spaces between first initial and last name). but then again I never bothered to check that email anyway XD
OK. So all you saw was a .jpg screenshot of this email? so he didn't forward you the actual email with headers, etc? Please.
if it was a CR rep replying to the email, they would not put steve's name on it. they would say they are replying on his behalf, but would not impersonate him.
I actually think it's for real. The abruptness in Steve's tone confirms my opinion.
Oh boy. Not only is this false - but... it's REALLY false.
I call shenanigans.
@aussie: You're wrong.
There, I was abrupt. Am I Steve Jobs now?
@eighteesix:
No, Apple e-mail addresses have no . in them, sjobs@apple.com is his correct address, a few years ago The New Yorker were trying to interview Bill Gates but kept getting the run around from the pr's so the writer sent an e-mail to bgates@microsoft.com, he replied immediately and they conducted the interview via e-mail...the reply is probably genuine...
The link to the original thread where this was posted can be found here: [forums.macrumors.com]
If you scroll down halfway, the OP posted the e-mail with the headers.
If this was a fake, though, the guy certainly paid a lot of attention to detail. He calls the device 'iPod Touch', and the SJ reply refers to it as 'iPod touch' (which is the technically correct name that would be used by Apple representatives).
@dragonphyre: Comment of the year!
The poster who said it before is absolutely right.
Steve Jobs is an @$$hole. He used to stay at the hotel my old roommate used to work at. He stayed there pretty often (in Santa Monica.) He was very demanding, rude, and worst of all he never, EVER, gave a tip. The bell hop's there live on tips and go waaaay out of their way to make sure the customers get a 5 star experience. Bill Gates, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Hopkins, you name it -- they all gave good tips and are very appreciative of the help (lots of celeb's stay at this hotel.)
He to this day refuses to give Steve Jobs any of his hard earned money since Mr. Jobs seemed so reluctant to give up his.
regardless of whether it really i
