The Amazin' Beer Chiller uses scientific principles to chill down a cold one in two minutes. Using what its makers call "patented XDR technology," it spins a 16-or 12-ounce beer or soda can in such a way that all of the liquid is exposed to the edges of the can because of the vortex created inside, cooling it off quickly. Then comes the secret part:
The battery-operated device also removes the heat from the outside of the can using special secret technology. All this chilling tech runs on two AA batteries, and all you have to do is just add a little ice and water. Or, you could just put your beers in the refrigerator and night before for free.
Secret? Looks like it uses the same principle as stirring a drink with ice in a glass. So far the Amazin' Beer Chiller is only available in Korea, but if it works as well as its maker says it does, expect to see it in the United States sometime soon. a

No, it doesn't. That method dilutes the drink. This gets a can cold from the outside. That's good when you run out of cold ones and have to head over to the garage. Or does Giz normally drink beer on ice?
In South Korea, thermodynamics chills YOU!
Oh, wait, I'm in the wrong place...
A little bit further northwest there phyre.
But doesnt stiring beer/soda while in a can lead to explosions?
Good beer is mean to be enjoyed at room temperature. You chill poor beer so it numbs your taste buds and you can't tell how poor it is.
See what 5 years in England will do to a man? They never did get me to switch from ice cubes to lemon slices in my Coke though.
Wouldn't the can or bottle of beer explode if you attempted to open it immediately after chilling it in this manner? I would suspect that chilling a beer in two minutes loses its luster if you can't open said beer for another five to ten.
Spinning is different from shaking, so no it wouldn't explode. It works by getting all the liquid in the can near the surface of the can which is in contact with the ice water.
This product is a rip-off of several products already on the market, including this one invented by a friend of mine (and readily available at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Linen's n' Things, Sam's Club...etc. for $60 to $80):

It's a lot classier looking and does wine bottles as well as cans.
I'm not sure but I believe some proceeds benefit The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, an amazing engineering school.
Bandit...

doesn't mean put ice in your beer...it means that using the straw to circulate the ice cools the drink. Whitea is saying that the amazin beer chiller probably spins the beer around the ice water to cool it down!
sometimes you might want to think before you write!
Are people really too lazy to crouch next to the cooler for a full minute? It's not like a battery-powered device is more presentable at a party where you'd need this ability...
When done right (an inexact mix of spinning and settling, with a couple taps on the top before opening), you can definitely take a beer from "back-seat-of-the-car hot" to "immediately drinkable" in about 60 seconds. Works best with cans, but it can be done for glass bottles, too. Plastic bottles don't conduct heat well enough for this trick to be truly useful. Foam and over-carbonation isn't a problem if the spinning is done right, though spinning and shotgunning really don't mix.
@Ahnyer Keester -- Agreed that Americans overchill their beers... and that domestic macrobrews deserve to be ice-cold (because there's nothing to taste anyway). But there are plenty of beers that can use a slight drop below room temperature to open up the flavor profile.
The wine shop by my house has something similar, its a big swirly pool that'll chill a wine bottle in 60 seconds.
If you use ice with water and salt it will chill your beer in just 5 min., if you can't wait 5 min. then you've got problems and you should get help.
Or you could just be a real man and drink your favorite single malt neat. No muss, no fuss, no dorky looking AmaZin BeerChiller!
Yeah, I'm happy with storing some hard liqour and some mix in the fridge then making drinks as needed.
I'm with deeddawg: Make mine a "scotch and soda, no ice, no soda."
we bought a half dozen of these at some roadside stop en route for a long weekend one year, not only do they not work, they were all broken before the 3 days were up
I had one in college that was about $5 and consisted of a container you'd fill with ice and water that the can would sit in, and a battery powered motor connected to a suction cup that would spin the can.
Got a can of beer cold in a minute or two.
DeadlyTango: You are correct sir. The Guinness I used to drink was not served at "room temperature" as the kegs were in the cellar which was auto-magically cooler than the pub.
bigbiz187: I think I saw that same Myth Busters episode.
Myth Busters had to cover adding salt to ice to temporarily drop the temp. Yikes...
