Reuters is reporting that an experimental foam material being developed to protect nuclear weapon electronics could be put to a much more hippy-approved use: surfboard cores. After the major surfboard core manufacturer, Clark Foam folded last year, a polymer chemist at the Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California, got to thinking that if they could make their TufFoam at a lower density, then it could be used as surfboard cores. Best of all, nobody gets hurt! TufFoam is free of Toluene Di Isocynate, a toxic chemical found in the previous foam surfboard cores.
