Honey, I Shrunk the GPS Receiver

Looks like GPS units are proliferating, appearing in lots of new products whose prices are falling while their physical size diminishes. That trend is about to accelerate, where even smaller GPS-enabled equipment is in the pipeline. Making that happen is New Zealand company Rekon, developer of a tiny GPS receiver that's about the size of an Altoid cut in half. The secret sauce inside is its temperature-controlled crystal oscillator that is cheap and precise, yet a lot smaller than all the others. The company says these new chips can be used in mobile phones, PDAs and even tiny watches. Just don't let them implant one in your skull.
