Over at the Corsair RAM Forums, there's a step by step guide to putting a computer in your car. The author starts with components, like a case that sips on the 12-volts from your car battery. Then he goes on to suggest optical and hard drives, a Mini ITX motherboard from VIA, and a 7-inch touchscreen LCD. After that, he outlines how to connect your new mobile rig to your car's electrical and audio systems. No mic for voice control, no GPS hardware, but still way cooler than twiddling with the dials on a regular old car stereo. Hopefully, nothing crashes.

The forums over at www.mp3car.com are pretty much nothing BUT installing computers in your cars. Awesome forum. Lots of knowledgeable people too.
"Hopefully, nothing crashes."
Like your computer, or your car?
"Like your computer, or your car?"

Hmm, I guess putting a less then sign nulls out everything typed after it. Anyways yea, I'm a member of m3pcar forums, so that would explain why this isn't news to me since I already have a pc in my car...with gps, and a mic for voice control.
as the previous commenters mentioned, this is old hat to most of us. I've had a machine in my car for 6 or 7 years now. (oh how I don't miss the days of maneuvering through a playlist with only a printout, a keyboard, and no display) MP3car.com is by far the authority on this subject.
It looks like the article does mention that they put in GPS hardware. I've found it much better to keep the GPSr inside the car to avoid theft. Oh, and make sure it doesn't draw attention. I think the bright yellow Delorme GPSr was what prompted the theft of one of my carputer systems. But that just meant it was time to upgrade! :)
