I got an email last night saying Lego has shipped my Mindstorms NXT pre-order. Looking at the tracking number, I don't think they've actually been handed over to UPS yet—probably tomorrow.
Nevertheless, if you, too, pre-ordered the NXT set, expect to be building your first robots as soon as this week. I'll definitely be doing a review myself as soon as I get a hold of mine.

I got to play with one of those NXT kits at the US FIRST National Robotics Competition in Atlanta, Georgia, this past April. I didn't get to go totally hands on, but there were demostrations and such. Looked very cool. I remember there was a robot that could move around on it's own, and if I recall correctly, could dance. It was amusing to watch. -nesdude
So, you're telling me that i just finished six years of uni studying robotic engineering and racking up a $25,000 HECS bill, and I could have just bought a lego set for a few hundred bucks? WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU SIX YEARS AGO, GIZMODO?!
At last, my dream of sex with robots is one step closer.
That's just sick Daniel. Sounds painful too.
The really fun part of this bit of kit is the mindstorms controller. We actually used that controller along with the sensors and some mitsuba motors to build a little battle bot for a mechatronics class. no lego bits, just wood and steel and rubber. it was pretty rad. The best part of the whole thing is the UI for programming. it's all drag and drop and you can do a lot of conditional programming, ladder logic and ramped responses. very cool, extremely easy to master, and tons of fun.
HAHA Danel looks like your virginity is safe for a few more years anyway :D
