MousEeX Mouse Glider Adds Weird Functionality to Your Mouse

The MousEX Glider pad is weird in the sense that most people wouldn't come up with a pad you rest your mouse on that you slide around with your hand. Why would anybody do this?

Because that same pad holds different add-ons like a navigational wheel, a giant button, or an 18-button pad that you can program macros onto. We're not sold on the concept, especially since placing your hand flat on a pad and sliding it around is way less ergonomic than using a mouse. However, we love programmable macro buttons dogs love peeing in the grass, so we're willing to give this a shot. [MousEX]

  • why don't they make *gasp* their own mouse hardware! its what...like 10 cents to manufacture? just make a mouse type think will all those buttons layed out in a circular type way.

  • i actually kinda like the idea if the pad wasnt huge

  • Lay your hand flat on top of your mouse and slide in what why you like without been stupid enough to waste money on that.

Spray some Pledge on there and polish the desk while you're at it.

  • Personally, I think this is one of the most dumbshit ideas to plague mousing since the blocky hard-to-click mice of old.

I really fail to see the benefit this could possibly give to anybody. If you're one of the relatively few that could benefit from gadgets meant to complement mousing, can't you just buy a 3D navigator, a design controller, an FPS controller, a jog/shuttle multimedia controller, or whatever else meant for your off hand?

Now, if they designed a modular off hand device, I'd be intrigued with the idea. If they'd give a rat's ass about both style and ergonomics, I'd be sold on the idea.

  • About 10 years ago, I had a Kensington "Thinking Mouse". It had four buttons instead of two and was programmable. I thought it was great.

  • "However, we love programmable macro buttons dogs love peeing in the grass, so we're willing to give this a shot."

    Wait... What?

  • The mouse that came with my current Dell at work has 4 buttons. My Mighty Mouse has 5. As far as I know they're all programmable (I haven't tried with the Dell mouse). Why on earth would I need this?

Aren't there gaming pads that can do this? I like the idea of an interface with programmable buttons for editing.

Somewhere there has to be a mouse replacement that has a bunch of buttons built in.

  • It says "MousEX"...

    They say sEX sells, right?

  • As dumb as this looks, my tendinitis stricken hands are actually considering approaching my brain for permission to buy this thing.

  • BEST idea ever...

ok not really.. its ALMOST a Nifty idea... but i imagian using a lot more effect trying to slide the pad.. then resting my hand on a mouse and sliding it.. not to mention it takes up a ton more space to be able to slide that giant thing around...

they do have gaming mouse pads.. that have multy button on them... i cant believe they are selling this.. or trying to..

  • @Reilao: That's MouSEX, right? :)

I can confidently say that this is easily the dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life.

  • You know, I had a great idea once. I called it the "Jump to Conclusions Mat." It was a mat that you layed on a floor, and it had a bunch of conclusions on it, that you would JUMP to!"

  • This is actually the worst idea ever.
After a while, you'll feel how bad this idea is on your own wrists.

The most "natural" way your hand can be, in order to keep it from strainning is actually the opposite from that this will do.

Which is, with your thumbs up. No need to trust me... just look for the best ergonomical sollutions around. Vertical mice are what works, even though you loose some precision.

Or even best. Try it yourself. Spend some time using your mouse, and then just turn your hand around a bit. You'll feel some relief only from doing that.

  • The most "natural" mouse I ever had was an otherwise sucktastic laptop where you wiggled the J key to move the cursor. It was damn near like telepathy.

Of course it lacked a scrollwheel, back/forward buttons, etc. and wasn't great for games where you need the spacebar and both mouse buttons...

  • I've been through a lot of different mouses/trackballs due to arthritic hands. the generic mouse is excruciating to use. Most. trackballs are thumb ball, which defeats the benefit (my thumbs joints are worst). Kensington Orbit and related trackballs are a good second-rate since the ball is centered and operate with fingers. This MousEx appears to compare to those kensignton products so far as to retrofit your existing moouse hardware to a somewhat improved flat handed position. (the MousEx is) Sort of like adding an electric motor to bicycle instead of buying a Harley. In this case, the "harley-class" mouses would have to be the Vertical mouse (and similar like the Quill and Zero Tension) which put the hand and arm in the natural handshake position. I use the Vertical and it is wonderful compared to the standard mouse or Orbit etc. trackballs.
