OhMiBod iPod Vibrator Hands-On

The OhMiBod iPod vibrator first made an impact last summer but we were able to get a hands-on this past week. To recap, it's a vibrator ("marital aide") that vibrates in sync with the music being played on an iPod. Once you ignore the fact that it's, you know, a vibrator and actually appreciate the underlying technology, you'll like it as much as we do. Something like that.

  • This is used for giving yourself a tiny massage because you have sore neck or shoulders......right?

  • This is used to give yourself a massage when you have sore neck or shoulders.....right? I really can't think of any other use.....maybe iPod gaming? Maybe I should ask my wife or something.

  • But! Does it work with the iPhone. Oh wait, the iPhone probably has its own built-in vibrator.

  • Exsexsory... I dont know if I spelt it right but if I cant even say it I dont care

  • Shouldn't Jason Chen be doing this review?

  • ...and this week in iTunes, Dub and Miami Bass seem to have suddenly tripled in popularity....

  • I have to agree with Shark on this one. Someone call up Jason on the freaking iPhone and tell him it's picture time!

  • Full disclosure: I received one of these units free of charge during their beta period.

These are actually really spectacular units. I contacted the company when I read an article about them on Wired.com, and they were still doing beta tests. They sent me one and my girlfriend has thoroughly enjoyed it.

It definately vibrates to the bass, and is quite enjoyable. It is well constructed and easy to use. It actually has a standard headphone jack on the bottom (along with a sensitivity adjust), and ships with a 1/8" splitter, so you can plug your headphones in like normal. It isn't limited to the iPod though. My girlfriend has really enjoyed using this on our home stereo, as it becomes a multi-sensory experience. She says she likes when the visuals (xbox360 media player), sound system, and pulse all go together.

One thing not mentioned: it has two modes, determined by which battery cover (rear cap) you put on . There's the headphone back, and a standard, multi-speed back (to be used without a sound source), which gives you a knob that you can adjust the speed with.

Unless you hook it up to a sound system, this is definitely more of a one-person toy than for partners, since the main user tends to zone out and not notice much else while using it.

Really fantastic though, and works great with keeping her entertained while you play DDR.

Enjoy! And don't forget to pick up the garter-strap attachment for the iPod Nanos.

  • Shouldn't that guy in the video have specified how he felt with his HANDS how great it was... not just how great it was. Or maybe I'm stupid for assuming he didn't stick it where the sun does not shine (behind pictures in frames, under the sofa etc) "it felt like the song was rocking out to the thing..." c'mon guy... it sounds soooo straight when you put it like that

  • Ok this is what I want Jason Chen to put down his pants next.
