The ramen fan is probably as old as some of you readers out there, but we'll call it the 10th anniversary of this thing and give it a go anyway. I enjoy a nice hot cup of cup ramen every morning (not the best ramen, but I'm lazy), so having a fan cool down my noodles is a fantastic idea. Would I pay $5.99 at a cheap Chinatown store for this? Definitely. Would I adapt this to other foods like stews, soup, and even steak? You bet your ass. [Ramen Fan via Digg]

shin ramen is the way to go. man, styling the fan on the hand is old-school. you need to get some fans on a helmet pointed down towards your food.

the best (non-cup) ramen is made w/ a poached egg.
heat water to a full boil
drop in the noodles
let it soften after 5 seconds
crack an egg right into the center, and preserve the yolk
cover the egg yolk w/ a thin layer of noodles
put in the spices
mix the noodles but don't mess w/ the yolk, you want to leave that gold and only half cooked, so you sort of have to stir around it
the egg whites will absorb some of the spices
remove from heat after the noodles have softened
if you do it right, you'll pour the noodles into a bowl, find the yolk, and break it over the noodles. top ramen w/ some slightly hard yolk is AWESOME. if you like it well enough, you can try w/ two eggs next time.
I'll take a bowl of real ramen please! Chashu ramen in a soy based soup is the reason I live. All of this packaged ramen talk is breaking my heart.
I would never use this thing, especially outside of the house.

Oh, jcy, that sounds like an interesting recipie. I usually break the egg in just as the noodles are finished cooking, break the yolk and stir for all I'm worth to keep it from sticking to the pot. Throw in some frozen veggies with the noodles, too & you've got yer whole, balanced meal that you can eat right out of the pot.

Yup, Shin Ramyun is the best by far! And you wouldn't dare add Tabasco sauce to it... unless you were a madman, perhaps.

This product was actually featured in a book dedicated to 'useless inventions' called Chindogu.
Apparently Chindogu is a cult hobby where people devise useless inventions just for the hell of it. The main rule of a Chindogu invention is that it should serve a purpose but be completely useless and impractible to actually adopt. The moment a Chindogu invention has some sort of practical use, it no longer is classified as being a chindogu invention.

Yeah, I have the Chindogu books and that's where the ramen fan is from. I *am* kind'a surprised that no one's made a real "ramen fan" though. I'd buy it!
