How do Tesla coils predate the Ford Model T, but still rock our world? The "Eye of Sauron" is the result of adding a motorized 7-foot aluminum pole to a Tesla coil, mounting the contraption to a car and photographing the experience with long exposures. What type of guy wields flying electricity in his front yard?
It's quite safe to be in the car although my son was apprehensive. This was a hire car (as I don't own one) and it still works. I did get extra insurance "in case".A great science teacher, scary neighbor, questionable renter or father who may never talk to his son again once he turns 18. We like his idea, but think it might be excessive security for a compact car. Then again, the silver paint job does catch light just right.

Cool.
I need one of those that activate only AFTER someone either dings my car door or breaks into my car. Nuts to the damage they do, I desire Karmic retribution!
Q: What happened to the car in the other two pics?
A: My guess is that the original one was destroyed, and it's duplicate is sitting somewhere in the woods covered in hats and rabbits.
Nikola Tesla was an E.T.
Hey! If that thing melts snow off your car too then I'm all about it!
Well, ok, as long as it pisses off the neighbors, I'd probably want one .
Obviously these commenters do not understand what a Tesla coil would do. First of all, it wouldn't "teletransport" or send duplicates to somewhere in a park. And it wouldn't melt snow. The clear REALITY here is (1) The car was totally vaporized. (2) The guy doesn't have to worry about his kid not speaking to him; the kid was vaporized with the car. (3) The snow wouldn't melt; it would be instantly turned to steam.
Tesla coils are soooo cool!
@Dutchflat, the hats/rabbits thing is a reference to the movie The Prestige (awesome flick by the way).
Also that is some great photographic work.
Uuh.... if i had to guess.... i'd say the reason the car isn't in the last two pics is because he wanted to show the tesla coil WITHOUT it sitting on top of the car. All tesla coils really do is create a highly electrified field. it doesn't "Vaporize" crap (I think the invention you're thinking of there is his Death Ray).
yes, but will it blend?

Don't you mean covered in hats and cats? Anywho, that was hilarious. I love that movie.

Yup, if a telsa hits the car, the car's fine, go watch some top gear episodes people.
Belladonna, I stand corrected.
My apologies, cats it is!
"Now you're playing with POWER!"
Thanks, Elementaldragon, for clearing that all up for us. We were getting worried.
Where is the flux capacitor?
Tesla FTW!
This kicks butt on those cheap neon lights that people put under their Hondas.
@ruggels
the top gear reference was to the VW golf acting as a faraday cage, nothing to do with a Tesla coil.
Someone needs to BUY this guy a car just because he's awesome.
Imagine if someone tries to steal the car and a car alarm activates the coil. They'd be like "What the-?" as the pole spins up to speed and they get vaporized.
(Note: I'm aware that it probably wouldn't vaporize a person, probably just kill them.)
Shocking.
Damn, I knew I should have gone with the bigger plug wires!
Sorry, bad joke. That is pretty amazing though, but wtf kind of car are they protecting with this thing? A Peugot?
As far as I can guess, he's using the car so the electricity creates the wicked ring, of all the Tesla videos I've seen, this is the first time i've seen that funky ring. Could be the motorized pole and long exposure though.
Goodness, this is incredible - How about a "Sauron's Eye" for your car? My wooden counterweight is on fire here at the top of the coil. It's quite safe to be in the car although my son was apprehensive. This was a hire car (as I don't own one) and it still works.
Yeah, cars pretty much shed electricity like rain water. I watched this guy hold his hand to the inside of an enormous birdcage while a huge Van de Graaf generator zapped it. Faraday Cage!
WHYYY CANT I LEAVE COMMENTS!?!!
@ABlueDuck: you can! yaaaay
