Unboxed: Our Shots of the Sidekick iD

Last night, we told you T-Mobile was launching the Sidekick iD. This morning, the FedEx man delivered it unto us. Our unselfish first thought was to take a lot of pictures of it and post them for you to check out. But, before you click for the gallery, let's recap:

•Budget-configured version of the Sidekick 3 (missing camera, MP3 player and Bluetooth)
•Extra hour of talk time and longer stand-by in return for the fewer features
•$99 after rebate and 2-year contract (contrary to what we might have said before)
•Customizable color faceplates (sold separately)
•Available at T-Mobile stores Wednesday, April 25
•5.12 x 2.48 x 0.87 inches; 6.2 oz with battery (Sidekick 3 measurements: 5.1 x 2.3 x 0.9 inches)

Follow the jump for a gallery of many photos...

Here are 21 shots taken in five minutes. We'll let you know if there's anything more to see...

  • at least they didn't spraypaint the sides of it...

  • I'm not much of a phone man. My Nokia 2600 is still kicking and working fine. The Sidekicks seemed so fragile with their spring hinge, not to mention the cramped keypad. Now this one is a gelded version of the real Sidekick? Why bother?

  • i would just like to see a comparison shot. i wonder how much smaller it is than a normal sidekick.

  • Im with PCLoadLetter, how about a comparison, or perhaps some plain old-fasioned dimensions on the photos themselves. You know, the old, "look at this thing next to this ruler" trick.

And make sure you don't grab Brian Lams personal ruler, or else everyones going to really think this thing is 12 inches across.

  • Why am I being assulted by pictures of this thing...have you no shame?

    Seriously though...enough.

  • its actually taller than a sidekick 3, but only a drafter could tell the difference.
    +.02
    +.18
    -.03

    Volume:

11.0469 cu. in for the sidekick ID
    10.557 for the sidekick III

so the ID is actually bigger... WTF?

  • How does this compare with the older Sidekick II? I mean, other than using the trackball instead of a wheel, the specs seem to be the same as the SKII.

  • So it's bigger (according to nutbastard) AND has a smaller screen? weak...

  • Doesn't seem so bad, for the price anyway. It would be in T-Mobile's interest to try and sell this as one of those free phones with a new contract, since those usually have crappy or no extra features. A lot of people wouldn't mind a free sidekick.

  • This is awesome. It has a "Photo Album" but doesnt have a camera. It has a "Web Browser" but only has GPRS to put you on the information highway.

The boxcasing of the SKID reminds me of the Nokia N-GAGE QD but you could atleast play games online (or offline) on the QD. This thing is beat.
