Every since Kotaku informed me of Sega's next generation robot chicken, I'd been hunting for a vid. (Who said they left the hardware biz?)
The fuzzy wuzzy bots are modeled after a 4 day old chicks, because that's when they're the cutest. And that's before they've turned their peeping noises into early morning crowing, and before they've learned to peck your eyes out. I suppose it's also easier to program the AI for a newborns. The robot, which goes on sale in Japan later this month, is already sold out online (according to a friend who I begged to order one for me). It reacts to petting, doesn't shit, doesn't need to be fed, so some would call it the perfect pet. But it doesn't grow up into something you can deep fry, so I question the point of it all. Sigh. Video after the jump.

Just wondering, do you guys get some sort of reward when people read the "jump" of articles? Otherwise, I don't see why you wouldn't just put the video on the front page with the rest of the news. Are their stats you guys take about who click the jump and who doesn't, etc? Just interested...
What exactly does it do that is robotic? Judging by the video, mostly it seems to remain stationary and look fake. I'm pretty sure I could have invented something that did that a long time ago. If only someone had told me there was money in it.
I'll stick with my Peeps.
I was so excited until i realized that it wasn't this robot chicken
Your mastery of plurals astounds me sir.
McQueen, that is the funniest post ever. Thanks for the laugh.
I want one!
Ummm... is this a joke?
All they did was raise their wings and make a noise. Didn't appear they could even walk...
No shit it's easier to program their AI:
-touch head = raise wings 30% of the time, peep 30% of the time, raise wings AND peep, 30% of the time
-occasionaly peep, raise wings, or peep AND raise wings for no reason.
T...that is so cute! Shame they are as technologically advanced as a ball.
But I want TWO!
The video clip states that users can keep a 4 day old chick forever, because that's when it's the cutest.
This reminds me of a Brian Aldiss short story, called "Super Toys Last All Summer Long"...
It's cute until it's boring.
There's something you can't deep fry? Preposterous!!
Well darnit. How can we get one in the states? My girlfriend would love this.
HORRIBLE AI. I can't see how anyone's gonna want to play with these chicks for more than a week.
Real chicks are cute and make you want to stroke them because they are unpredictable and run away from you from time to time. These ones look dead and lifeless.
ps. The above also applies to human chicks.
Wow, I can't believe this. The end of the clip which depicted little girls furiously petting the robot chicks has me deeply disturbed. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for progress, but what is going on?
Blah. Too boring- it needs death claws or fangs. Something ridiculous and evil.
Anybody but me getting a Blade Runner vibe here?
Bring on the snakes!
Well, it's the natural sequel to Tamagotchis.
(IIRC "tamagotchi" is derived from the Japanese word for "egg")
@jawzxy: Like the Chubbchubbs?
Where's its bionic laser eye?
Will it blend?
I want to see a follow-up post about how they really can be deep-fried. video included.
I always wanted to keep the cutest chick forever too.
It's a-liiive!
The TV show is so way better than this.
Those little girls in the vid fail at petting chicks.
Why didn't I think of this!
I wonder what the insides look like.
Yeah it is too boring. Where's the robotic Gamecock?
I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one welcome our new robotic chicken overlords and am ready to serve them. Task one: kill Robot Colonel.
Those girls look a bit chicken.....
You know what'll be fun? Buy this for your little daughter, and watch as she grows to love and care for this little toy. Then one night while she's asleep, take this away from her, so that she spends the whole day looking for her beloved chickie. Then, that evening, bring home a six-piece chicken nuggets for dinner.

I don't have a daughter, so could someone please try this on your own daughter and tell me how it went? Please video her reaction when you hand her a chicken nugget, and upload it to YouTube. Please, please???
I wanna eat one anyway.....
Nooooooooooo!!! The invasion of the Little Cute Robot Chicken has begun!!!
LOL
Warning: don't feed them after midnight!
My mother in law gave us all little plastic chickens that poop er...lay tiny candy eggs when you press down on their heads.
As if that isn't cool enough...
The heads are removable to re-fill the chickens and contain a tiny electronic peeping module that goes off when the head is pressed or shaken.
Needless to say we all abandoned the rest of the chickens and have been carrying the heads around shaking them all when one goes off in a great cacophony of electronic peeping whenever one goes off "accidentally".
Serves her right.
Happy Easter
Robot Chicken was/is a good show.
Big news for robotic animal fanatics! Remember those robotic chickens that everyone went gaga over? This summer and fall, Sega Toys is adding three new species to its Dream Pet series: a cat (modeled after a full-grown American Short Hair), an owl that looks like Hedwig from Harry Potter, a...
