Take a gander at the Seiko UC-2000. This is how far we've come in 22 years. Compare that monster with the Zypad WL 1000, which has WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Linux/Windows CE. The Seiko, well, we're lucky if it tells the time correctly.

Oh my.. I had one of these, in fact I had the "deluxe" kit which included the watch, the UC2100 and the UC2200 terminal which had a "rom pack" slot AND a small printer. I don't think I ever got it to do anything useful, but it sure was the geekiest thing around back then... It ran BASIC apps and entering them was an absolute nightmare. I only once managed to get a small app running, after what seemed like days of typing :)
Wow, the power switch is an actual SWITCH. Thats old....
I wonder if it tells time.
jordy bea...beam me...jordy can ya...god damnit...
scoobydoo - I'm envious! I really wanted one of these back in the day. Here's more info on your system: http://cdecas.free.fr/computers/pocket/uc2000.php
.. just found these dissection pictures (don't worry.. it works again when reassembled): http://www.sigma957.org/dissect.html
The guy is one hard-core modder: http://www.sigma957.org/uc2000.html
I especially like the fact that the watch has a Split/Reset button... you know, for those times when nerds need to check their lap times.
great caesers ghost! i think i STILL HAVE one of these in the basement!
im diggin that bad boy up tomorrow - i swear it still worked like a charm when i put it back in the box!
I totally had one of these way back when. I probably still have it somewhere, at least the keyboard. I'm sure the watch is floating around somewhere too. They were more or less useless really.
but does it run Linux?
That is beautiful. Absolutely awesome
@hisham
DSL, if you're extremely lucky.
Woot! Doom tournament!
Dude!!! I bought one of these from a "Pioneer Factory Outlet" store for @ $50 around 1987. Well, it was the Seiko 2000, but very similar. I used it to cheat on my history and psychology tests. It was kind of obvious because of the "beeps" when you pressed the keys... But when my teacher walked by and saw what I was typing into it's tiny keyboard he simply shrugged his shoulders and gave me a knowing but "ok" nod. It's memory was pretty small but I could sort of "short-hand" it so I knew the answers on the upcoming tests. I sold it after the "new" was worn off. Kinda wish I hadn't now. The keyboard just snapped on and off. All of the critical data was stored on the watch itself and it had scroll keys to access the information. Other than the "beeps" it just looked like the typical "geek" watch of the day, ya' know, with pac-man or somethin' on it. How cool was that?!?!?!
