Polaroid is not dead yet. Apparently it was only sleeping, but now its research labs have smelled the coffee and spun off Zink, a company whose first product will be a stand-alone printer that's about the size of a deck of cards. This one-button printer is designed to easily connect to a camera phone, and will cost less than a hundred bucks.
Looks like a perfect companion to the iPhone, and might just work pretty well with D.A.V.E., that Seagate pocket drive with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi we mentioned earlier.

ooooh... i want it for my MDA. that thing is sexy! i do wonder about the paper and ink capacity/price though. hopefully you can print more than 20 pics without having to replace a very costly ink cartridge.
keep us posted please
1) This thing should also have at the very least a SD card reader or an 8 in 1 would be nice.
2) tiny lcd screen so you could see what pics from your media card you're printing.
Well, since Zink is apparently short for "Zero Ink" (http://www.zink.com/), I don't think that ink will be the problem, ms.adriancole.
Apparently the "ink" is in the paper, so it's the paper that will be expensive.
The linked site mentions that the big announce date is tomorrow, 1/31. But you can check out the fact sheet on the site
@Inigo Montoya>>
A screen would seem to be against the point of having a small cheap printer that interfaces with your camera phone. (Doesn't your camera phone already have a screen?)
I'd be happy if it could interface with my camera directly somehow, or if it would understand the EXIF print bits that I can set on my camera and save to my CF card.
On the other hand, they do show a Zink printer with an integrated camera on their site http://www.zink.com/splash/Zink_Fact_Sheet.pdf.
Now you can steal somebodies soul and return it to them in no time.
That Zink is pretty cool. I've been wondering for a while why no one had yet come up with a tiny printer like that. Leave it to the ex-Polaroid techies (I think the Polaroid name was sold due to bankruptcy) to come up with the solution. I just hope the paper doesn't wind up costing $1.00 a sheet like the old Polaroid film did.
LOL! The inner-child in me wants to get my hands on one of those printers so I can tear it apart to see the micro-engineering inside.
that looks pretty darn cool, I want one for my SCH-A950 Samsung!
Hey!
This was a cool product in it's own right. Why the need to pair it up with iPhone. I'm sick of this craze. It's a smart-phone. All smart-phones do the same thing. The camera is not great. It's no revolution. It just has a nice interface. It's like with that movie Departed. Everyone says it's the greatest ever, but you know that only because the cast is stellar... It's really terrible. The iPhone is The Departed, overplayed and overpublicized.
