Those of you playing first person shooters on the PS3 but suck at using the SIXAXIS to aim were probably looking forward to the SplitFish FragFX, the half controller, half mouse contraption. How well does it work? Pretty darn well. And it's customizable too.
You can assign the mouse to control the camera view, the left stick, or even act as a mouse in the PS browser. Downloadable software also lets you reassign all the buttons in case games don't have good assignment options themselves.
There's even a "frag" button, which when pressed, slows down the mouse movement significantly so you can aim even more precisely. For $59 (wired) and $69 (wireless), you can't go wrong with this controller. We just wish they'd make one for the 360.

The wii nunchuck, anyone? Nintendo is once again revolutionizing how people play video games as their controller ideas trickle down into innovative devices.
Huh? How is this idea a "trickle down" from the wiimote? Just because it's split?
It's not as much a wiimote as it is half of the Dual Shock. Nice try though.
any bets about how long it takes for the console players to start complaining about unfair advantage?
this would be tits for Halo when it comes out. here's hoping for a 360 version!
Excuse me. But why isn't this article about the iPhone? I thought you had instituted a rule that everything needs to be iPhone for at least the end of the week.
This is freakin SWEET! I'm a thumb sucker and am not afraid to admit it.
Yeah, OMFGITSDON, because that would be... uhm... rational. mouse control is better for aiming, hands down.
Oh man, shut up about Nintendo. Did you even read what the device does? It says nothing about it being a nunchuck. You see that mouse there? along with that mouse pad? Or the analog stick? Can you see period?
I guess not.
This is truly exciting. I've always shied away from consoles because of their horrible FPS controls. I can guarantee that this will not only catch on, but eventually become the norm for FPS Online Multi-player games.
the ps3 supports mouse+keyboard right and ut3 is supposed to support it for the game too right so will this even be needed??????
I've always sucked at FPS games on a console, cause I'm sooo lame at using those analog sticks (I've got teenage kids, so I'm old enough to have not grown up with the modern console controller).
I'd given up all hope of even playing those games, but now I wanna get one of these and see if I can actually play a game without fumbling to move and aim all the time.
But does it work with the iPhone?
Have you guys even heard of the iPhone before?
The thing to find out is how free is the mouse look? Is it a true mouselook as in nearly instantaneous or is it just mimicking the thumbstick movement with a mouse? There was a mouse adaptor that came out for the XBox that seemed promising, but in actuality was no better for mouselook than the thumbstick. Hopefully this isn't like that was. Nice about the frag button for sniping.
@trickypuss:
That depends on whether the game itself allows any kind of acceleration control adjustability. If the game only allows input samples at a set fequency then it will be just as slow as the regular controller. But if it's some how hardware dependent then you should be able to get the same result as using a PC mouse.
It is a wiimote ripoff and it is VERY easy to see how.
The "nunchuck" portion of the wiimote contains the analog stick, which would function how this ones half controller works. While the mouse portion, is basically the wiimote proper, since the sixaxis has no spacial abilities, only motion detection and thus cant work as a pointer.
sure there is a few bells and whistles like the trigger for fine control, but otherwise its a complete wiimote ripoff.
The only people who cant see this fact, are Sony apologists... but then you spent 600 dollars on a system with no games, so its understandable.
As I've commented elsewhere, I'd love something like this for the PS2, as long as it works as well as my PC setup.
Medal of Honor looks like an awesome game, but I just suck too much with the console to have any fun with it.
Sorry, I've just been doing the mouse/KB thing for a couple of decades now.
I don't understand how it is a Wiimote rip-off...
One side has the motion sensing, yes, which the SIXAXIS already has...
And the other side is a MOUSE. If I'm not mistaken, those have been around for a while.
This design has been in the works for a long time, before the Wiimote came out. Just because you hold one in each hand should not convey that it is a rip-off of the Wii, even it does vaguely resemble the dual-wielding Wiimote.
Can you change the Look sensitivity on games to accomodate the speed of a mouse?
It would suck if your look speed tops out at the max they allow for thumbsticks (ie. definitely not fast enough for a mouse).
They do have one for the PS2. Its called SplitFish edgeFX PS2. They also have a product - glideFX - which instead of a mouse has a trackball.
Want to see a real Wiimote knock off? Then check out their dualFX controller.

That's interesting...
I just picked up EdgeFX for $39 at the Gamestop today. I've been playing GrimGrimoire with it and it's fantastic.
Only thing I wish it had was programmable button layout.
Well if it's a wiimote rip-off then I guess my PS3 blue thooth remote is a rip-off too. Along with the rest of my remotes and let's not forget the Hori Seperate controller for the PS2 and the Ascii Grip controller.
Yeah, your right all those controllers are rip-offs. Even if they don't have acceleromters, all rips of nintendo's great invovation! hail big N...
Get off the pipe guys... or purchase a PS3.
@ Falconfire
You claim that this is a rip off of the Wii mote, however the split fish mouse has been around for the PS2 for years before the Wii was released. So by your logic (however wrong it is) the Wii stole the splitfish design?
Yeah owned...
