The Wind Shade Roof is basically a large roof (surprise) decked out with an arsenal of wind turbines that perform the combo power of providing shade and electricity to whatever's below or around it.
Michael Jantzen's rendering of his concept shows it employed over a pool in the middle of the desert—where it's powering all of the lights, maintenance, etc.—making for all kinds of cool blues to make a neat idea look pretty sexy too. Also, check out his massive portfolio of future-y convention-busting designs.

@Atrocious:
Winner of this thread.
I'm sure its going to be really great... especially with headless birds dropping on top of you while you swim
Just how much wind-generated-power does that pool need to function???
Too much - same with our backyard pool.
Westwood Studios called and wants the plans for their Dune II wind generators back.
@Stang70Fastback: Thank you for ruining my joke with your stupid reality... :(
Why would someone put a pool in the middle of a desert?
@ideaman2020: Better than a pool in the middle of a glacier. If I was stuck in the desert, I'd love a wind shade powered pool.
Here in beautiful South Dakota, we have enough wind to supply everyone's pool with energy!
Does the roof somehow impede evaporation?
A pool in the middle of a desert with extra wind getting blown over it, is really gonna have a hard time staying full.
@zenpoet: Not that hard when it's only warm enough to go outside one week a year.
@Cerixus: I try... :)
@zenpoet: dude. i thought i was the only one from sodak that reads and comments on these boards. our state is movin' on up with george and weise.
@ ideaman
i don't know, ask everyone that lives in LA or Vegas.
@D.LYTE: We are legion!
@92BuickLeSabre: Not true dear friend. Summers are scorching, lasting, not that strangely, 3 months. Yes, its cold in the winter, but you look forward to snow when you have a weeks worth of supra 100 degree weather.
@mbodey: People that lives in LA or Vegas usually are near buildings, not a bare desert.
If I were in a desert, a swimming pool might be ok, but a water fountain would probably be better. [I wouldn't wanna drink pool water, would you?]
