  • not to offend our gracious host- but what the hell does this post really mean? who is shipping? everyone? ATI? Dell? Niveus? this would appear to be a completely meaningless plug for either a 2 month old "sneak peak", or a manufacturer of preposterously overpriced media center PCs, or i guess...both.

  • I guess i'm stuck with free to air high def then, seeing as I cant just buy the cable card adapter.

  • I've got DirectTV, is this just for cable? I am confused but wanting one...

@evaluator: ATI's finally got their CableCARD setup CableLabs certified (took a couple weeks to re-certify), so all the HTPCs with CableCARDs are shipping. Hence, the title, "CableCARD Media Centers Shipping".

  • Does anyone know what's up with CableCard 2.0? I hate set-top boxes but love to watch MMA fights, so I need the pay-per-view support. I haven't heard much about a deployment schedule though.

  • no cableCARD in Canada... sucks.....

  • what do those many of use with DireTV HD do? sit on our hands? We'd really appreciate just a little hint of news that they're trying to let us actually use the HD capabilities with our Media Centers.

  • So 99% of the content that is in true HD comes for free over the air and I can record it with my computer already. There are only a few select other HD channels with limited HD programs. So you are telling me that I can finally purchase an over priced PC with windows vista (that blows), attempt to get cable cards from my cable provider, then pay my cable provider for overpriced "digital" service and then I will be able to finally enjoy all that HD programming that I have been enjoying for the past 2 years!

    This is a great idea.

  • Hey boilerbots, enjoy watching HBO and other premium channels in HD...oh, wait.

  • Looks completely cool, but I'd be interested in hearing how some of these solutions price out for average consumers who don't have any of the components to start (what's the least expensive entry, what's the most value, etc).

  • is it just me..or does the top part look like it took a design point from the original xbox?..also the side frill/vents.

  • I liked cablecard HTPC's better when I was allowed to build them. I will NEVER pay this much for something I could build for half the cost.

    Cablelabs SUCKS! D.I.A.F.!
