Apparently, every major carrier is getting a RAZR2. But that doesn't mean they're identical. Between the stores, network technology, and the custom UIs, each is different...and some better than others. Here's a brief guide to which RAZR2 has what, which hasn't been documented at all until now:
•The RAZR V9m is the CDMA version, and will be available on Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, Us Cellular, and MetroPCS. Many of the differences here are on the "CLI", the RAZR2's haptic external touchscreen. Oh, and none of the CDMA versions have crystal speak, the tech that turns up volume of the earpiece when a bus rumbles by, while also noise cancelling the rumble in the microphone. (CDMA quality is better than GSM, and doesn't need this, according to Motorola.)
Alltel and US Cellular's V9m has the CLI buttons in this layout: Recent Calls, Music, Messaging.
Verizon's V9m has vCast music stores, and it's CLI buttons like so: Camera, Music, Voice.
Sprint has its music store, TV, and a multimedia CLI like this: SprintTV, Camera, Music.
•The V9, sans "M" is AT&T's. It's a hair thicker, because it has a lot of stuff in there for GSM/GPS (Assisted, likely)/ HSDPA, UMTS. AT&T's CLI interface is actually very music oriented: Play, FF, and RW. It also has MobiTV, XM streaming, and a full HTML browser.
•The V8, which is not so dumbed down that it needs a different number designation, is T-Mobile's. It is different, though. EDGE, of course, and 2GB of built in memory that can't be swapped out by MicroSD like the other phones with the "9" in their names. It also has a music oriented CLI interface, with Play, FF, and RW, but that won't show up until your music is playing. The home page has that TMO faves menu, too. It also is a linux based OS, maybe their MOTOMAGX OS. Like the AT&T GSM phone, it has a full HTML browser.
All have stereo bluetooth streaming, and all the specs we noted back on the handset's May launch.

Yawn. I demand more iPhone news!
Please don't smack me with El BanHammerino. I was only kidding!
While it's not a slider, I've been happy with my current incarnation of the RAZR, and since Alltel is getting one, I may decide on it when I switch in a year. Definitely after it drops in price a little, since the current price is ridiculous.
I'm finally done with Verizon's assraping, but I love the fact the Verizon network is the strongest in Michigan. Luckily, at least around here, Alltel and Verizion are incestuous in their love for networks.
That is one... iMean two gorgeous screens.
@Captain Lumpy Dog:
The iPhone is garbage and I work for at&t. The N95 and w960i both destroy it and Im not a Razr or Motorola fan either but this phone(s) is better than it.
@GIOVANNIMCADOO
Your friend, Grammar is not?
Ooo, this one actually looks like a pretty nifty RAZR... The first I never even owned, but it sure did have one of the slowest OSs I ever used on a phone...Motorola MOTORAZR maxx Ve from Verizon now doesn't even look that good at all...
But RAZR2, must say sure looks quite nice, and since it's Verizon I might actually be able to try it out at one of those in store booths and heck, might even get one.
I just hope Verizon does not ruin it with putting one of their old crappy theme, like with the original RAZR, maybe some new one or at least take the one from the Chocolate...
Alltel gets a decent phone less than a year after its launch? And my two-year swap-out is up just in time...
@empreality: the last imagine sure looks like verizon business as usual...
personally, i just want to know how much the at&t one costs, because i'm about ready to give up on t-mobile...
just got my lg 8300
ugh..the first razr was awesome because it was so tiny for the times. It was also an extremely expensive phone for that reason, but it go so popular...wow, its down in the "free with contract" bin already. Now, why the razr is so popular is beyond me, the menu system is by far the WORST I have ever seen or used (I don't own one, jeez, I have an audiovox :P) Oh well, hopefully this one is nicer.
Hm, I might get one as my "can break" phone when I don't want to risk the iPhone getting hurt.
I'm not anti-RAZR or anything, but I've about had it up to my eyeballs with the cell phone carrier hegemony, and this article illustrates my point. Its all about the carriers pushing crap we don't need or want (movie trailers? tv clips?) deciding what we do and don't need and charging us a premium to do so. The only phone mfr that seems to be fighting this is Nokia and if I wasn't locked in to Verizon I'd get on any ol' GSM service and get me an unlocked Nokia just to stick it to the man. Well, I guess that's what I'd be doing. Sad that our generation is reduced to selective purchasing as a substitute for real activism. I'm going to go watch Vendetta again and pretend I've got a spine.
motorolla makes great looking pieces of crap, but then again, they always have.
@weatherman: I couldn't agree more. This competition, which should be a good thing for consumers, has gotten so out of hand that it actually HURTS the customers, which is just ridiculous. Same thing is happening with BR vs HD disc formats. Shameful.
@otaking241: What do you MEAN a year after it's launch...? Alltel??? Which has been around FOREVER? Alltel is not new my friend... I'm slightly confused by your comment. The Alltel name has been around since almost ten years ago when they bought out Alliant Cellular. Hmm...weird. In their defense, they get a lot of the newest phones.
@drbles2010: okaking241 means that Alltel doesn't get their new phones until they've been on the market for a year, not that Alltel is a year old...
@drbles2010: he means that alltel doesn't get good phones until a year after said good phones are launched.
don't exactly think thats true, but its what he meant.
Hmm. I am able to upgrade my AT&T phone next year in March, I believe. Maybe I'll pick up this or an iPhone, depending on if prices have gotten lower around that time.
i have untel next march until i can upgrade too. hopefully apple would have camoe out with iphone 2.0 with a better camera and gps, and i'll upgrade to that... if not there's always the nokia n95. does anyone know if the n95 is as sluggish and memory shy as the 6682? if so it wouldnt be worth it.
@Rob C: You apparently haven't tried using a Kyocera.
"CDMA quality is better than GSM ... according to Motorola."
What, what, WHAT??? News to me, with the infamous CDMA echo and all. I've always found GSM better for voice.
Why is Tmobile getting all the gimped phones? The Wing was a very minor upgrade to the MDA, unlike the Mogul and 8525, which were decent upgrades. Now the v8 which doesnt get GPS or removable flash memory. Sure, 2GB is pretty nice, unless the v9 can take microSD HC cards, but still removable flash is usually better than nonmemorable. It's not that I would be getting a razr, but its pretty dissapointing
@TheDoomer: Ok, and yes I'm not sure that's true at all...
You guys forgot to mention how all the GSM phones get an 18Bit internal screen while CDMA is shafted with a 16 Bit. I don't understand why!!!
@Weatherman: Move to Southeast Asia. Everybody there uses prepaid SIM cards and you can get them all over the place. And if you ever visit Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, go to the Low Yat Plaza mall and hit the cellphone stores on 2nd floor.

Thanks in advance...
