If you're looking for an incredibly simple way to control iTunes at home from your iPhone, look no further than Signal. Once you're running iTunes and Signal, all you have to do is connect to your Wi-Fi network (Yes it uses Wi-Fi, so you can go all over your house no more of this IR tomfoolery) and then point your iPhone to the web address that Signal provides you. Instantly you've got yourself a fully functional iTunes remote, complete with playlist access, album art and even customizable queues. While it is a bit on the pricey side, $29.95, it does do just about everything that you could ask from a media remote webapp.[AlloySoft]

$30. Why would I use this? Intel Macs come with a remote that controls iTunes...so WHY?
downloading. i am suprised apple didnt suck up sailing clicker for the iphone. then again i'm not.
jesus would have,.
Pretty cool. It would be even better if something like this existed for Apple TV.
Maybe Apple is already on this, but I want it!
I haven't heard anyone mention this yet, but I really hope Apple adds air tunes streaming from the iPhone to the airport express with no computer involved.
It would be so awesome to have a party and be able to control the music from a hand held device easily without having to deal with my computer.
I guess the only thing is, is the processor in the iPhone beefy enough to handle the encryption and stuff to stream the music to the airport express?
Who am I kidding though, I don't have enough friends to have a party :)
I really don't see the purpose of this. If you can stream music/photos/videos from your Mac or PC to your iPhone without sacrificing space (similar to the PS3 to PSP or PC to 360) then it would be a lot more useful program. I personally would use that space on the iPhone for music and photos and videos I would stream from my home computer because videos take up a lot of space. Imagine throwing in a DVD on your computer and then wirelessly stream it to your iPhone at full resolution, very nice. This remote function seems utterly useless in my opionion.
XTREMECAMERA- if you just need to control for tunes from five feet away in perfect line of sight of your Intel Mac, then you don't need this. I have airport express stations all over the place, and up until now the only good remote control I had for streaming tunes to them from anywhere in range of my wi-fi network was my MacBook. This makes my iPhone into a great remote control on top of all the other amazing uses. One less thing to haul around! iPhone, you're my best friend.
Signal sounds like a great program for the iPhone but i have Salling Clicker for my Treo 700p and it rocks! I can view all the songs on my comp and completely control every aspect of my computer (including full control of the mouse) with clicker. 1 point Palm Treo, 0 points Apple iPhone.
@Daftrok:
You don't see the point in a remote control? Its to, you know, control media played from your PC (eg to speakers or a TV) without sitting in front of it. A bit like a remote control for anything else. Remote controls are useful.
What you describe however, does sound utterly useless. Why would you want to stream a DVD from your PC to the iPhone's tiny screen over your wifi network?
Looks cool i wonder if this could be done when leopard finally comes out.
Well, I bought this little sucker and it works as advertised.
Signal, (combined with AirTunes) gives me total control of my computer's iTunes music in 5 rooms of my house, without having to run back to the computer to make adjustments. Playlists show up on my iPhone via wireless, and so does the album art. Friends' eyes simply bug out when they see it in action.
I'm not interested in streaming music from my iPhone directly to my AirTunes speakers' - not when I can use the phone instead to remotely control my iTunes library on my computer! I'm very, very pleased. Not exactly cheap at $29.95, but for a 1.0, it's a killer web app.
@ Voicegy- you're right- yesterday I was switching between playlists & internet radio stations, adjusting the volume and taking requests from people at our cookout without having to leave my post at the grill. Everyone went from, "You've got an iPhone, well that's cool I guess," to "WOW! You're controlling the music from the phone?!?! I didn't know it could do that!!!" Awesome.
Everyone who has invested in an Express Base Station needs this. It is an expensive setup to get an iPhone, a computer, the base station(s) and $30 for Signal; but the "WOW!!!" factor you get at a party is totally worth it.
This sounds a lot like Google's Telekinesis (beta) although I suspect Telekinesis can also work through your firewall.
I got it and like it ,works like it says and the cool facter is just way out there ,friends are like wow I got to get a Iphone.I know stuff like this will bring being able to look at my webcam from anywere on my Iphone ,so I can keep a eye on the pets when I'm at work .29 bucks is not cheep but I think both microsoft and apple should let people make there apps and not have then installed on the op to keep the price of the op down and better apps out there because the ones from them suck .
