No need to worry about batteries when you take along the Bird-Electron EZ-TAKEGTF2 electricity-free portable bamboo speaker ($199). Just plug the stereo miniplug into your MP3 player and you can rock the bamboo, off-grid style.
And bamboo, is, you know, sustainable. Get yourself a solar power unit for that iPod, and you'll be set to hunker down all the way through The End Times, where the definition of "sustainable" may mean lasting into the next day. What song will you listen to during the upcoming apocalypse?

Duh. The song will be a medly of, "Highway to Hell," and "Move on Down the Road." [it works ... the chorus to each runs right into the other: "I'm on the Highway to Hell ... Move on down, move on down the road."]
Anyway, here's some more song suggestions, courtesy of yer guvment:

But, back to geekery, I see this this "speaker" as a Pringle can Transformer mod: one minute its a wi-fi antenna, the next it's a speaker.
If it's "electricity free", does that mean the audio signals move the driver elements via quantum mechanics?
REM's "It's the end of the world as we know it". Duh.
