The HDPS-L1 (have we met before?) is an 80GB photo storage unit from Sony that serves as a central place to store your digital photos, with all the appropriate outputs so you can watch edge-of-your-seat slideshows for when Grandma visits. It's about half the size of the average DVD player, so while not portable in the strictest sense of the word, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to bring it to and fro—the neighbor's house, the in-laws, jury trials, etc.
Images are transferred to the HDPS-L1 either via the built-in USB port or you can plug in any of the many types of supported memory cards, including Sony's MemoryStick and the ever-present CompactFlash.
Look for the HDPS-L1 in Japan starting on October 27 for around $300.

Hm... why do people start to buy /i guess they really have to buy it so it keeps coming/ things that do same thing their PC/Mac already can?
I feel that with pc i can get more...
P.S.
SONY - stop making sh** - give us PS3!!
80GB isnt going to last long even with a medium resolution camera.
Does it use RAID? what happends if the drive crashes? can you back them up, or is this the backup?
ah yes.. the new modern day equivalent to the good ole 'slide' shows of family trips of the past.... "now with cool transition effects, music, and sleep detector..."
Certainly not a product for the technically inclined, as we all have products that run circles around this narrowly defined item. I also didn't see any mention of movies, and since most digital cameras record movies, I hope this thing can play 'em.
You what though.. this might not be a bad thing for someone like the parents if the UI is very easy, but at that price.. I don't think its going to fly.
Great idea.. but go with a modded XBox 1. For the same price, you get all this functionality and then some.
80GB? I've had a 4MP camera for just three years and passed that mark last Christmas!
How much do 80GB drives cost Sony, anyway? Why not 160GB? They can only be incrementally more expensive.
