Whats the average cost of Fios say for NYC?

Practically nonexistent - I have been waiting for them to rollout in Manhattan for a while. There are a few buildings here and there I've heard of that are wired for it, but that's about it (AFAIK, at least).

But will it include former GTE areas?

Certain 3rd party phone services will not serve those districts.

Errr...I just tried to add this to my account. Wouldn't work, and...VZ is closed for the evening! LOL. Anyways, I will give it a shot again in the AM. Website says there is a 79.00 one time fee...but I already have FIOS...lets see if that sticks.

@deadphotomac: That is rather sad, considering that some *other* countries have 100 down and 100 up for a third of that. Can't complain about size or population density too- not like Verizon's trying to wire up every little podunk village in the US.

You can only compare with other products in your country. The price seems high, but for that speed it seems a decent starting place, It will only go down over time.

Yeah everyone thats all fine and dandy but Verizon has to take into account that their backhauls across the country are going to need serious upgrading before everyone can even dream of actually utilizing those speeds. Especially seeing as they don't necessarily own those backhauls. Not all the web pages people use in new york have new york mirrors.

Silly me, I thought those of us living near Silicon Valley might get decent internet access. Where's my friggin net access with friggin laser beams?!? Throw me a bone here, people!

Here's what bugs me - I need to move house to a new location. I have several general areas that would meet my needs, i.e. put me closer to an office of my employer. There are few factors I need to consider. (I have no kids, so I don't need good schools or even a stereotypical "good" neighborhood.) One of those factors is internet access. So you'd think I could go to the Verizon web site, look at a map, and see where I can get FIOS. Right?

Nope. You input a zip and get told that it's not available but that you can sign up to be notified. Screw that; I just want to move somewhere that it's available.

I have to believe that someone somewhere has scraped this info from the site, inputting all U.S. zip codes and finding out if FIOS is available, then putting that info on a map. Anyone know where to find such a thing?

Where I live... the city is in cahoots with those bastards at comcast and are refusing to give verizon the go ahead to install their FIOS cable. It is so amazingly frastrating that I live in the largest development in the city (a MD suburb of DC), can't get FIOS, and yet I can go less than 1/4 mile north into a different city, and everyone and their mother has FIOS.

For all the complainers out there that don't have the ability for this, it costs Verizon a good amount to get this to you. New lines have to be put in and for somewhere fully established like NYC, that's got to be a huge undertaking. I know the work being done in my neighborhood (newer high end neighborhood in southeast houston), is being contracted out to a company from Dallas. We still won't have fios TV though because apparently that will cost verizon another $20 mill investment to get it for Houston.

No fios in my area of nyc yet either. I can't wait. I couldn't care less about how much faster it'll be just as long as their advertised prices stay put. The cable company's bill makes me weep every time I pay them for half-assed broadband.

Japan just cracked 1 GB/ps bandwidth under $10! US does not have the infrastructure to spport this for another 10 years at least. 400 Mbps seems to be pretty common down there - although it does not eat trains and tiny Japanese kids.

@calaverasgrandes: Online storage, for one. Using Gmail as online storage is far better than carrying around a flash disk, to be honest.

There are many prices for Fios here in the tristate.
The triple play over here is $94.99 a month.
Thats Phone, Fios TV, and internet. Thats the 20mbps download 5mbps upload package
Most definetly as soon as thats in the bronx we're goin2 upgrade to the 20mbps upload 20mbps download. Or maybe just stay with the 20mbps download, 5 mbps upload
If i get a say in it im goin2 get the 30mbps download 15mbps upload.
Verizon is goin2 get filthy rich off of this.
