The crazy folks over at Think Secret took apart an iPhone. They've got 49 shots of the process, but we just wonder how many shots they'll need to put the thing back together.

OH MY GOD!! the killed him!! NOOOOOooooooo poor iPhone*sobs*
I wonder if that voided the warranty?
That was unnecessary
In the gallery the iphone has a 3g sim card , Hmmm???
The picture above is what it would look like if a Transformer diarrhea-d.
@sg11:
I guess EDGE is technically 3g??
@Kenosterino: No. Edge is not technically 3G. Edge is technically 2.5G.
@sg11: Hmmm what? All AT&T (and previously Cingular) sim cards said "3G" on them. It just means they are the newest generation sim. The sim doesn't make it 3G, the phone does, and since the dismantle clearly showed an EDGE chipset and not a hidden 3G one we now finally know that it is NOT 3G, and that it won't be enabled through software either.
So, am I to assume that either nobody else had any news worthy gadget stuff going on today? Or did apple just buy Gizmodo and not tell anybody. I know I sound like King Herod, but unless you are wanting to sell your soul to Jobs, or wish you could afford to sell your soul, this makes for boring reading.
I was disappointed when I saw the insides of this thing is just regular old circuit board . I seriously thought it would be filled with puppies and magic. God, I'm dumb.
I'm surprised someone hasn't gone in the line to go, smash my iPhone dot com! Then, they would smash one and fanboys would get pissed.
It looks like any old phone when it's apart. I thought there would be some magical piece of equipment like Mark 200 imagined. Too bad.
Nice to see that the battery is easily replaceable. . .what with the solder and all.
I don't get why every other manufacturer has this figured out, but Apple insists on making it really really difficult.
Holy crap. A 3G sim in that thing? Hmmmm. Also: They tried another service provider, but I wonder if a current ATT/Cingular sim works in that puppy.
@scoobydoo:
You know what a 3G chipset looks like? Are you sure it doesn't have the capability?
Also: Anyone know what "PB Free" means on this shot?: [thinksecret.com]
@johnnyrandom:
That's probably "lead-free"...
@Scoobydoo
No, EDGE is NOT technically 2.5G. It IS technically 3G. It is 2.5G only in practice.
-Wow
-I'm beginning to think apple doesn't want you to replace the iphone's battery but instead to buy an iphone 2G when or before your first gen iphone's battery craps out...
-Samsung is going to be making a lot of money off this.
-Wonder if SONY puts their chips in any major products of any other company...
Those MADMEN!
@Jitty: The Wikipedia entry says there will be a fee charged to get the battery replaced. I don't know how much it will be.
Beavis sez "Yeah yeah, break it! Break it!"
Blasphemy!!!
Has anyone tried to swap out the AT&T sim card for say a TMobile sim?....
