Origami fans—or just people who like money and have a lot of it lying about—might find Enrique Pardo's iPhone accessory interesting. The Swiss photographer and graphic designer folded a $100 bill in all sorts of clever ways and turned it into a stand for either jesusPhone or iPod Touch. How-to video is after the jump, plus a quick Q&A session with Enrique.
Gizmodo: Hey Enrique, how did the idea come about?
Enrique Pardo: I made the stand because I had thrown away the little plastic stand that came with my iPod touch. I was taking the train to Paris and spent 3 hours thinking of how I could make my iPod stand to watch a movie."
G: Euros or dollars?
EP: My first stand "cost" 20 euro in fact.

G: So why did you make one using a $100 bill rather than a $1 bill?
EP: I made the video with a $100 bill just as a joke to say: here's what to do with your $100 Apple rebate for the iPhone—that doesn't come with a stand!
G: And finally, what denomination would you use to make a Zune stand?
EP: Concerning the Zune, I have never held one so I can't tell you if this stand would work but if ever I had the chance I'd try to tweak the origami to make a Zune version—why not?
G: Thanks for your time Enrique
EP: Thanks for writing and for the link on Gizmodo! Have to look after my bandwidth allowance now ;-) [YouTube via SwissMiss]

Is it just me or does this look more like a zune accessory?
Sorry, but it's my general opinion that most people who buy an iPod Touch or iPhone have the funds and / or style enough to just buy a decent case with that sort of functionality.
A paper iPod Touch holder.... sigh... seems to rank right up there with that guy who made a laptop stand out of some junk wood he nailed together. =\

Wouldn't this work with other video players, such as the Zune?? all you have to do is fold the bottom edge a little wider and you get a Zune stand!! Besides, how much video are you going to fit along with your music on a 16GB player??
Yeah, because this couldn't be an artistic exercise or anything.
No statements being made in the process or anything, nope.
Good morning folks, coffee's almost done.
Yes, have some.
I forgot to add that the video was awesome and that I like that better than any hunk of plastic I've seen yet.
Not to mention it's far more recyclable. :)
This is great, it not only allows me to be cheap and still hang with the rich crowd (use a $1 bill), but it also folds up nicely for travel purposes.
On the downside, that same cheapness factor won't allow me to purchase an iPhone.
@Xidius: You're an idiot
Please read STRIDER_MT@X's comment.
@Crazysamz: Actually you can fit a lot into an iPhone if you re-encode the video. Using x264 and aac, 40 mins of TV comes to 100Mb. A whole season comes to about 2.5 Gb, which is great for travel :D
that is cool looking.
I wish that guy could fold just a little quicker.
I'll wait for the $100 model to go on half price clearance before I buy it. :P
Only a mac fanboy could find a way to make the iphone cost another hundred dollars and think it was a good idea.
@yougottabekidding: As long as Bush is in office, that wont be long before it happens hahaha
@king_of_fools: Haha word!
Is it just me or does that ticking draw anyone else's attention away from the content of the video to how long it is taking?
Can you send me that $100 so that I can double check that it works? ;)
anyone know the music in the background? im really diggin it..i probably wouldnt have watched the whole video if not for the music
Damn Europeans throwing our cheap money around! Sniff.
"EP: I made the video with a $100 bill just as a joke to say: here's what to do with your $100 Apple rebate for the iPhone-that doesn't come with a stand!"
maybe the european iPhones are different, but don't they come with a dock here in the states? at least mine did...
@ScotteusMaximus:
oops, i should have watched the video to the end to see that it holds the phone horizontally for videos. my bad =P
Definitively it is an interesting idea, but I would not use a bill of 100
@RHETTY:
For the background music it's "Indélédébile" from LEGO [blue.jamendo.com] it's a free album under CC, download it you'll enjoy it.
Cheers
@king_of_fools: LOL : )
But preatty cool..
@rhetty:
For background music it's indélédébile from LEGO it's a free album under CC, go download it, you'll certainly enjoy it.
Cheers
I tried this with one of the many $100 bills i have just laying around... I wish. The plastic one that came with the touch still works better although it is not as cool
@Crazysamz: just did it w/ 1st gen zune= huge pain in teh a$$ & much less sexiness of stand kuz it is pretty big now
Go buy a dock....scratch that, go buy three docks!
iphone came with stand and the touch didn't. this guy is half right.
i have a zune30. and it seems to hold up just fine. i like this - it's a good simple solution to a stand. i used a somewhat crumbly dollar bill so on completing it i thought it wasn't gonna hold up...but when i put the zune on it, it seems to stiffen up a little.
@TOSTINNI:
sweet, thanks
Enrique Pardo's origami stand for the iPod Touch or iPhone is fashioned from a crisp $100 bill (Enrique's little dig at the $100 iPhone rebate).
This is a neat idea but I don't think it works very well in practice. The back of the stand is a very neat fold, ouais. But the front of the stand (the hook) that holds the iPod touch in place is very messy and actually does not hold the player well. The other problem is this stand only holds the player in the horizontal position. In the vertical position, the player slides down. I think a re-design is in place.
