Writer Mary Robinette Kowal has done a semi-steampunk mod on her laptop, calling it "The Kowal Portable Typewriter and Adding Machine." And, unlike most mod freaks, she didn't catalog everything to the minutest detail. I like her "I had a laptop, I made it look more purdy, what more do you want to know?" attitude.
The harder-to-please among you might bitch that she hasn't done the space bar—see the pic below, as it seems to have disappeared above—but she's on the case, so quit buggin'.

Oh yeah, much less ugly.
Steampunk? What is that, Dayglo Abortions played on a Caliope?
I hate 3rd generation aliterations of terms. Like Choco-holic. Supposed to describe a chocolate addict, but the hol from alcohol is on there still to remind us that its really about mudslides.
Steampunk being that BURGONEING genre of victorian obsessed sci fi. Because lit reviewers are dimwits they just adpated a 20 year old sci-fi term.
stop bitching, i think it looks great. fair play to her, i cetainly couldn't do better, and i'm guessing neither could you.
and by the way, alliteration (which you didn't even spell correctly) means a series of words starting with the same letter. dimwit
I think it looks kick-ass. Job well done.
Nice work! Sounds like it took a lot of time and patience. Not to mention the creativity to come up with the idea. I'd take this mod over an iPhone or that Prsim thingy.
steampunk.
why? it's UGLY!
If'n I had me some skillz I'd absolutely do a full-on steampunk notebook mod. The idea is cool; the ghetto wore-out mouse button gots ta go.
I want one! But in black no white! Cool mod and it looks good.
Very nice! It reminds me of the old Royal typewriter that I learned on.
