Giz's Top 4 Laptops with Mobile Broadband

As much as I love Wi-Fi, there just aren't enough hotspots blanketing the city to keep you connected all the time. So it's nice to see more laptop manufacturers integrating mobile broadband into their machines. Granted service plans are still pretty high, but if you're lucky enough to afford it, here are some of our recent favorites.

    HP nc6400
First up is HP's new nc6400. It's one of the first notebooks to include HSDPA support and for $1,599, you get a nice 14.1-inch notebook powered by Intel's Core 2 Duo processor. It'll be out later this month and should do a good job of satisfying your e-mail on the go fix.

Next up is Asus' V2. Like the HP model, it supports HSDPA in addition to Cingular's EDGE network. It's got a 14-inch display and is slightly less powerful than the nc6400 (1.66GHz), but it's got a built-in webcam, fingerprint reader, and a hot-swappable module bay that can house an optical drive one minute, and a HDD the next. Pricing isn't available, but we have our eye on this one.

Sure, it's been out for awhile, but Sony's carbon fiber lappie is still one of the most fashionable ways to connect to Sprint's EVDO network. It's got the smallest display of the bunch, but when your notebook weighs less than 3 pounds, that's hardly a reason to complain. However, this notebook's $2,699 price tag might leave your wallet wiped out.

Not one to be left out, Dell fitted some of its newest Latitudes (and even an XPS) with EV-DO support. With a sub $1k price tag, these capable notebooks are an inexpensive way to get with mobile broadband.
