How to Love a LEGO Lunatic

At a party once, Jesus was asked if he were a leg man or a tit man. The answer is neither. He's a LEGO man. Well, to be honest, he's all three, but rather like faith, hope and charity, the greatest of my husband's loves is LEGO. I'm not bitter. The colorful, benippled bricks have just been around rather longer than I have. That's not to say LEGO has never caused problems in our relationship. When it did, though, I came up with the following 10-point solution to cope. More »

World's Tallest Lego Tower Reaches 100-Foot Mark

Once again, the record for the world's largest Lego tower has fallen. Last year, the Lego bricks towered 96 feet over Toronto. This year, in celebration of Lego's 50th anniversary, participants at Legoland in Windsor, UK built a tower resembling a Viking longboat mast that managed to hit the 100 foot mark using 500,000 bricks. Hitting the 100 foot mark is definitely a fitting way to celebrate the 50th anniversary—but I can't help but wonder how high they can go next year. [Metro and Daily Mail]

R2-D2 and C-3PO Easter Egg in LEGO Indiana Jones

Reader LindsayJoy just received her Indiana Jones and the Lost Tomb LEGO set, complete with snakes, the Lost Ark, snakes, Marion, snakes, Indy, snakes (I hate snakes,) and a special piece we didn't notice the first time we saw the first production set photos: a piece with the hieroglyphic engravings of R2-D2 and C-3PO in the Well of Souls, just like in the movie. [Update: actually, not like in the movie. As a reader has pointed out in the comments, it's Leia putting the Death Star plans in R2-D2 as C-3PO watches, like at the beginning of A New Hope.] More »

LEGO Mousetrap Makes Mice Hate Danish Cheese

This LEGO mousetrap by Jason Allemann is pure, classic simplicity made of bricks. Created with LEGO technic, the trap measures 30 x 16 x 24 studs, and captured two mice that had decided to live in his home (one in the picture above.) The mechanism itself is quite simple: More »

Batman Battles Baddies Forever in LEGO Zoetrope

Here's Batman, the Riddler and Mr. Freeze jumping around in a LEGO version of a zoetrope, a device from the Victorian-era that quickly spinned pictures to animate them. This one uses a turntable and synchronized LED flashes to produce the stroboscopic effect that creates the illusion of moving figures. The author, who is going to feature it at Maker Faire, got his inspiration from this absolutely stunning, large-scale zoetrope that Pixar built for an exhibition at New York's MOMA: More »

Zip Zip LEGO USB Drives Get Updated to 4GB

The previously 1GB Zip Zip LEGO USB drives are getting an update to 4GB. Unfortunately, Zip Zip still doesn't make these things out of real LEGO blocks—there's probably some legal reason preventing them from reselling it or something—but they're a good approximation. Things you shouldn't do with this: toss it into a huge bucket of regular LEGO. [Zipzip]

Huge LEGO Yellow Castle Version Looks Bigger than Most Apartments

We are fans of huge LEGO things, from airplanes to ships to spacecrafts, but this colossal version of the legendary Legoland Yellow Castle—for some one of the best LEGO sets in history, including Joel—has to be the most amazing giant concepts we have seen so far. It may look small, but hit the jump to grasp the gargantuan dimensions of this 6:1-scale model, with each original scaled piece made of dozens of regular bricks.

Moov Is the LEGO of Kids' Vehicles (Verdict: I Don't Want to Grow Up)

Moov is probably one of the most amazing toys you will see this year: a do-it-yourself 4-in-1 vehicle kit for kids aged between 5 and 12. Now it's a racer, now it's a carver, now it's a tricycle, now it's a scooter. It's like LEGO Technics meet Duplo meet true pneumatic tires, but with giant wood and plastic pieces, easy enough for a kid to build it and big enough to ride it at Warp 7 down the street, as you can see in the demonstration video after the jump.

LEGO Brick Tower Mood Light Builds a Castle of Happiness

These aren't LEGO in the way that actual LEGO are LEGO, but they are translucent bricks that you can stack on top of each other to build structures. In this case, the structure is a tower with a hole in the middle for a light to go, which then passes through the various colors you've set up to induce one of several moods. The redder the construction, the...let's say angrier you'll feel. The yellower, the most you'll feel like taking a whiz. Thirty-five bucks gets you one. [Brando via Geekalerts via Slashgear]

NASA Lunar Chariot Tested by NYT Earthling (Verdict: Best Rims in Outer Space)

NASA's Lunar Chariot, which costs a reported $2 million to build, has just been tested by the NYT. The top speed of 15 mph may not set tarmac on fire, but it sure as hell can burn a truckload of astro stuff, all with it's six-wheeled wackiness trailing closely behind. The front driving "turret" houses the primary control; a joystick for steering, as well as various cameras and sensors, the feedback of which is relayed to the onboard screen. John Schwartz, the NYT reporter sent out to run the test, didn't get to drive the buggy itself, but he was offered the passenger's seat / stand, and here's what he made of it.

LEGO Futurama Fan Set Makes Official Line a Must

For those of you who run on beer, tell people to kiss your shiny metal ass, and think there's nothing better than LEGO Star Wars or LEGO Space, here's LEGO Futurama. As you will see in the 24-photo gallery after the jump, the Planet Express headquarters features custom detailed minifigs of the main characters. More »

Dead LEGO Minifig Skull Holds Eggs, Easter or Not

Easter is here. Yes, you all read about it in the Da Vinci Code, that whole thing about that guy who walked over water whose best friend was a giant bunny. Or something like that. Whatever. According to Dan Brown's next book, those two spent the whole week eating more eggs than Cool Hand Luke. Chocolate eggs, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, eggs benedict, boiled eggs in dead LEGO minifig skulls halved in two? Yes. Anything to scare your younger ones in the morning, match the minifig skull Egg Timer after the jump.

LEGO Factory Space Revives Most Loved Theme, Going Pew Pew Soon

We knew LEGO Space, one of the most loved LEGO lines in history, was going to be revived. Now we have nine official photos and full details of the new LEGO Factory Space. Created by two US LEGO masters, they will be launched on April 16 with two sets ready to battle, one with baddy Space Skull minifig and the other with Star Justice. We are missing Space Tonto and Space Girl, but hopefully this will grow into a full-blown theme soon.

LEGO Batman Trailer Features LEGO, Batman, Villains and Our Excitement

This LEGO Batman trailer has everything we love: LEGO, Batman, video games and moving pictures. We didn't think the goofiness of a LEGO game (LEGO Star Wars was quite fun) would carry well over the darkness and gravitas of the recent Batman flicks, but this works quite well as something completely separate. It's campy, but we think there's enough room for a campy Batman again.

LEGO Bass Guitar Is Funkylicious

I see this funkylicious bass guitar made out of LEGO and I'm all like waka-waka-waka-waka-waka and then I'm like wonk-waka-wonk-waka-wonk-wham-wham and my head explodes imagining Les Claypool playing it while sailing on a sea of cheese. The bass is real, with a Jazz Bass neck. Its creator says that it "sounds a lot like Flea's bass from the Chilli Peppers," which will probably make Frucci want to buy it, and learn to play. And then we will form a band, with me playing the amazing Angel Sword guitar and Jason playing drums. And we will call it Bricky Stardust and the Amazing Dildos from Mars. Or something like that. LEGO MP3 Players Are Not Official, Look Great Anyway

Why settle for a boring old MP3 player, when you can have one based on everyone's favourite plastic toy? We mean LEGO, before you get smutty, though these brightly colored players should probably be called LEGOish since they don't look too official—not a Lego logo in sight. With controls concealed as the raised bumps, and a six-hour Li-ion battery they don't seem too bad, even if you do have to supply your own microSD card for storage. Available now for $46. C3PO, Indiana Jones, Clone Wars Trooper Life-Size Lego Models Are Awesomely Huge

We just spotted these great, life-sized Lego models of Indiana Jones, C3PO and a Clone Wars Trooper at the annual Toy Fair. We asked how many Lego bricks it took to construct each one, but were told that it was "a big secret." We couldn't care less, they look amazing, and we desperately need some new office furnishings to brighten up the place. Unfortunately, these are just show pieces, and those hoping for a gigantic Indiana Jones Lego pack will have to make do with these (movie spoiler) kits instead. Clone Wars fans get some smaller Lego-loving, too, but we want them so bad, we're going to try and smuggle the life-size models out. Stay tuned for news on the covert operation. Checkout the gallery for a ton of awesome images.
