  • Okay.

  • Who holds an announcement event at quarter to midnight east-coast time?

Apple would never screw over the east-coast press like this.

  • @Windhawk: Haven't you ever heard of things being in "real time"? Contrary to popular misunderstanding, that refers to things that happen on the west coast, where the time of the day is the real time. ;)

Seriously, though, news happens around the clock in all time zones. We live in a 24-hour international world. Steve Jobs can announce something at a keynote presentation in Paris when most people in California are still sleeping, but that is not really a big deal, is it? The journalists who are present will write their articles immediately and meta-articles will follow throughout the following day or two or three and the news will get out.

The Microsoft event is a satellite to another west coast event, so it is only natural that it is scheduled for west coast attendees, not journalists, meta-journalists, commentators, and others who are not only not present, but not even in the same time zone. Earlier in the day might have been too early for attendees with other engagements or for the venue. Either way, though, their news will get out and anything that strikes writers as significant will be all over the place tomorrow-you know, when more people are actually awake and paying attention to it.

  • @windhawk-why would it matter? shouldn't the east coast press be there anyways?

  • I'm not shedding a tear for the press. They'll live.

  • @bver100: Exactly. Many journalists travel a lot and most of the ones at the Microsoft event are probably not locals.

  • So what's going on with [live.gizmodo.com] now? The content disappeared and now it just says "Live from E3!".

  • not seeing anything!

  • Watched the show live, very good event I thought. Would have loved it even more if they had have announced a portable 360, would have been awesome!!

  • what does apple have to do with this? Get off it.

  • Hrm. I stayed up to watch the coverage streamed on gamespot since my cable co doesn't carry G4. Can't say I was blown away by anything. Some nice clips of games though, and interesting how they only focused on stuff that's coming out for the holiday season.

  • @Windhawk: The want to catch everybody half asleep so they don't have to answer XBox 360 failure rate questions.

  • "Hey, remember all that stuff you already know about the 360 and upcoming games? Check it out on this big TV screen!"

That's basically what I got out of the conference. That, and a shit green colored 360... Why did I watch that? Hopefully the rest of E3 isn't as lame as that. I want some announcements about something...

  • What Adam said. I can't believe I stayed up late for that non-event.

  • DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN !

I don't think I heard anything new from Microsoft that I didn`t already know. maybe just the Halo3 360 fresh paint ! oh, and we're also getting Gears of War on PC, that should make the headlines !

When you spend an hour+ talking about upcoming games that we already know about and stats from the last 3 years to show that Xbox360 is doing good, it makes it pretty boring for the fans thirsty for some really next-gen gaming.

I hope Sony has got something new to bring to the table. Otherwise they might as well cancel E3 and we can get all the stats and the previews from IGN like we always do.

  • 65nm? Falcon? A non-event? Again!??

  • I stayed up all night for nothing.
