The title of world's tallest LEGO tower just shifted from California to Toronto, where energetic LEGO Master builders Erik Therkelsen (at left), Per Knudsen and 12,000 of their closest friends stacked up enough of the plastic bricks—more than 465,000 of them—to create a 96.1-footer.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it's now the world's largest LEGO tower, beating that 94.3-foot erection in LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, California. Dozens of plus-shaped modules were stacked up with a cherry picker to complete the huge structure. There's no word on how long that tower will stand. [Toronto 680 News, via Yahoo News]

could someone in toronto do me a favor and kick it over?
...and film it and put it on youtube
The only LEGO tower record that should count is for ones that are untethered.
huhuhu... you said 'erection'
World's Tallest LEGO Tower Rises Over Toronto.... then leans, topples over and becomes a biggest multicolored lego pile.
Pansy in a Class 3 harness. Alright, if he's gonna wear that he better rappel down from the top of his "tower".
yeah, if it's tethered or glued, it's not really that cool.
@Uncle_Leo:
oh crap you had me laughing really hard in my office
They should've stuck it on top of the CN Tower's antenna mast while they were at it. I'd like to see someone try to beat a Lego tower that's 1,900ft "high".
94.3-foot erection
yeah who had the 94.3' erection in Legoland? Did he pass out from lack of blood to the brain? Did it ever go back to normal legth? and what is normal length after a 94 footer?!?
Funny I live in Toronto and I never heard the news.
BTW, who the HECK has 12000 CLOSEST FRIENDS????
I like how one day everybody loves Lego inventions and then the next day, everybody puts a serious hate on this Lego post.
Send it to the starving kids in the world. So they can take they're mind off the fact that they are starving!
Is there some reason not to go the additional 3.9 feet?
@rcarydon:
a) Canada technically uses the metric system, so it wouldn't mean very much
b) they almost certainly couldn't get their hands on a crane that would go any higher
There's no word on how long that tower will stand.
I assume since the tower was built on the grounds of the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) that it will be up only as long as the CNE is ongoing, that would mean the tower ought to be up until September 3.
The only LEGO tower record that should count is for ones that are untethered.
It had to be tethered, the tower was built right beside the CNE's food building.
Didn't I see this on an episode of South Park?
Slightly off-topic... Props to Toronto!
Economist just voted Toronto #5 Best City to Live In in the World!
The report said Canada, "with low crime, little threat from instability or terrorism and a highly developed infrastructure," is the most livable destination in the world.

Why not break the 100ft "barrier" while they are on it? :P
