Peter Moore on the Limited Edition Halo 3 Xbox 360 Console

Remember that tepid reaction to the limited edition Halo 3 Xbox 360 announcement at Microsoft's press conference on Tuesday? We had an interview with Peter Moore earlier today, and Moore blames the reaction on himself and his "showmanship" as a presenter. Moore also says he's not worried about the reaction of the crowd, and will judge the reaction of the console by how much it sells.

He also reiterated that the Halo 3 Xbox 360 will be a limited edition console (as in it won't exist forever). Moore dismissed the question of whether having four SKUs existing simultaneously will be confusing by pointing to the fact that the Dreamcast had 15 SKUs simultaneously at once, with many different colors and designs. We're not sure justifying what you're doing by pointing to the Dreamcast is a good idea, but there it is.

  • Sorry, but Peter Moore is a douche. Don't get me wrong - I love my 360 (when I'm not taking it back to Costco and getting another one when it 3-rings) - but Moore and company are f'ing clueless.

I've got news for you, Moore. You were at a CONSUMER show, no one gives a shit that you're turning Halo into a 'billion dollar property.' What a turn off.

Just let the developers speak for you.

Oh, and if you read this - you've got a good thing going with Live, but it's in serious jeopardy of jumping the shark by nickle-diming-and-dollaring your customers. When I saw the $ for extra Guitar Hero songs I crapped a Flying V.

  • there were 15 different dreamcast sku's? damn

but this seems to be a recent trend with M$, the entire company seems to have become schizophrenic, look at vista with its myriad of options, and the zune offered in any color we can sell...

I seriously took a shot thinking I was going to drink 1 up with him, but I guess I they pulled a fast one

MS caught me with my pants down once again...for shame...FOR SHAME!

  • We're not sure justifying what you're doing by pointing to the Dreamcast is a good idea, but there it is.

hahaha, that's exactly what I thought as I was watching the video.

  • sku this sku that. I know where you can shove your sku. (Sorry about that).
But seriously, Bitfactory hit the nail on the head with Moore being a douche.
"You may be too young to remember this one."
    WTF!?!
It's not like Dreamcast was made in our infancy. I'm assuming most of you slick reporters are older than I am, and I've been able to be legally shit faced for years.
    What a cocky bastard.
Thanks for sitting there and taking the slap to the face. Quality interviews are hard to come by. Heh.
Apparently Moore thinks that if you are an XBox gamer you are too young to know the differance between quality systems and the Xbox. (oops, did I type that out loud?)

  • sidenote:
I've always contested that DC was the first system to bring in the kick-ass PC style consoles when others claimed the XBox was ahead of its time. The DC had built in ethernet, bootable os, had that cool little VMU feature, etc. It was even able to load DiVX back in the day (check out DCDiVX)!!
After doing some research into Sega's demise in the console world, I found out Sega had some partnered research help in developing the Dreamcast. I'll give you a guess as to what ripoff of a company volunteered to lead the R&D.....
    I really hate Microsoft.
Kids, don't grow up to become a douche.

    @Phishy:
    heh, me thinks you're wasted

wii thinks we should think we should meet up sometime...eh?

    @bitfactory:

I stand corrected...taking pride in Costco's 90 day return policy gave me hope with ya'

I got a 1080i upconverting DVD player that ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!

let's just say I re-read your comment and I strangely, yet totally agree with you

    my bad and I apologize.

  • The Dreamcast had 15 SKUs? Wow I only knew off two, the normal one and the black one that came with some sports games.

The Sega Dreamcast is my most wanted console right now.

*shoots self in head for not buying a Dreamcast when they were $20*

  • Peter Moore.

The only way he would ever work for Apple is if he was he played the PC part in the 'I'm a PC...and I'm a Mac' adverts.

  • @bitfactory: E3 is not a consumer show and it never has been; journalists report to consumers, sure, but media coverage has always been secondary to connecting with buyers and other businesses. E3 is a trade show and it always has been. If you're going to be obnoxious, you might want to at least get your facts straight first.

As for the supposedly 15 Dreamcast SKUs, I doubt Peter Moore was referring to a single country or region; I do not recall ever seeing the Hello Kitty Dreamcast on any Silicon Valley shelves.

  • @Brian Sexton: Sorry, it's the truth. Is Peter you're Dad? If so, a hundred apologies. If you don't think he's clueless, well...

@DISCOUNTEGGROLL the 360 is still covered forever, the new 90 day return policy doesn't apply - yah for Costco!

  • 'My fault' sounds better than the truth. MS marketing sucks eggs, Peter!

  • Hey should watch and learn from Steve Jobs key note speach.

  • @bitfactory: What is the truth? That you are an obnoxious, anonymous troll that does not have its facts straight?

Have you ever been to an E3? It seems not. If you had attended even one E3 or if you had so much as read the registration materials, you would know that it is a trade show with admission restricted to industry members and journalists. That is the truth regardless of what you insist to the contrary and it is easily verifiable.

If you are so sure that E3 is not a trade show, please please prove me wrong.

  • Brian, the fact that Moore is a dbag, I didn't dispute the fact that it's a trade show. Additionally, if you don't think E3 is inextricably linked to consumers you're mistaken. In the words of the Big Toe, 'Lighten up, Francis.'

  • Yeah, he's definitely got that whole "Hey kids, I'm a douchebag" thing going on.

"Sure, I'd be concerned if people were'nt buying it. But I mean... heh heh... like that'll ever happen!! Am I right? Am I right?? (reaches for high-five) Heh heh, ka-CHING!!!"

    Douchebag.

  • Why is it that people seem to want to know more about the "tepid reaction" than whether or not this new SKU is utilizing the "Falcon" 65nm chipset? I know a lot of my friends are waiting for the supposedly cooler-running and more reliable manufacturing process. Is this a just a new paint job, or is this the better Xbox 360?

  • Yeah, he's right.....and he knows us well. The tepid reaction was one thing....but im still buying it....

  • Well i mean people are going to buy it im not going to buy it cause in another year the new XBox is coming out.
They follow a 3 year schedule dont they. So i mean c'mon the XBox 360 came out 05 its 07 next year's 08. I would wait till next december to get the better one than spend $100 more than what the regular XBox360 costs.
Its a waste of money and he knows his consumers.
No Claps = I dont Care I just want my bread. lol

  • I'm sorry but all of these minor improvements on gadgets are annoying. You spend all this money on expensive products and they don't even work right!

How about investing the time and energy to get it right the first time so you can support a good product and feel free to move on to bigger and better things?

Microsoft does NOT need a limited edition Xbox 360, and I don't think gamers are willing to buy one unless they fix the damn product. The 360 is just plain faulty and how any company can justifiably stand by such a product is baffling.
