Sony Ericsson P1 Follows Up P990 By Going 25% Smaller

If you're a fan of Sony Ericsson's P990 Symbian smartphone, you'll definitely scream like a little girl when you hear about the newest P1 phone. Not only is it 25% smaller than the 990, it's got a 3.2-megapixel camera, 512MB Memory Stick Micro slot, push email through BlackBerry Connect, Wi-Fi (802.11b), VoIP support, Symbian 9.1, 2.6-inch display, a quasi-QWERTY keyboard, Opera 8, Stereo Bluetooth A2DP, and 160MB of internal memory.

The most important surface change is probably the fact that it doesn't have the flip-open keyboard like the P990, but that's something you'll have to play with yourself to see if you prefer. Otherwise, it seems like Sony's got a great upgrade here with the P1. And yes, they've answered everyone's question about what they'd do when the numbers get to 999—wrap around again back to 1.

Bigger shots after the jump.

Sony Ericsson P990 Finally Available, Indiana Jones 4 and Duke Nukem Forever Still En Route

The SE P990 that we saw back when That 70s Show was called That Show About Current Events With People In Fashionable Clothing is finally available on Amazon. You can pick one up for $699 if you really want it, but the sucktastic UI and the lousy ergonomics may be too much for any human without Mother Teresa-like patience.

Sony Ericsson P990 Feature List OMG OMG

Looks like we have a full spec list on the P990, and this thing is loaded. This beast, successor to the popular 910, has a very nice feature list in the current era of Blackberry-patent suits, including push email under Sony's UIQ Symbian-based OS.

Other features include a business card reader—what I wouldn't give for that—and a music player that supports MP3, AAC and AAC+ formats. Then you've got a 2-megapixel phone with 2.5x digital zoom and flash, a 2.8-inch QVGA screen, and FM clock radio with stereo Bluetooth support. If previous incarnations have been any indication, the price on this thing will be stratospheric.

Sony Ericsson P990 In the Wild

I have taken it upon myself (and I hope I'm not the only one) to become completely infatuated with the new Sony Ericsson P990. If you are sick of staring at the Sony stock photos day in and day out then check this out. This P990 sexiness is popping up all over the wild and we have links to prove it. I don t know how the guys over at the Walkman Community or Infosyncworld managed to get some hands-on action, but regardless it will hold this Gizmodian off for another day. Don t forget to check out Gizmodo's previous... err... coverage of this P990 phone.

Sony Ericsson Naming Problem

Well yesterday we took a loot at that new-fangled Sony Ericsson P990, well good job Sony, you have caused the biggest naming cluster-fuck ever. After further researching this little dandy phone we have come to realize that pretty much every company out there has some kind of product named "P990." Here is a quick list of other products name P990: Dell P990 19" CRT monitor, the GE P990/991 multi-band receiver, Saitek P990 game pad, Fisher FVC-P990 camcorder battery, Technics SL-P990 CD player, and finally (our favorite) the Walther P990 HANDGUN. Come on Sony, you're busting our chops.

[Thanks, Daen]

Sony Ericsson P990 - Hermione Unbound

Finally, it turns out that the much-rumored Sony Ericsson Hermione phone is actually the P990. The just-released phone seriously packs it on with both UMTS and WiFi, and comes with a new UIQ3 open software platform that's based on the Symbian OS. And if that doesn't have you drooling, it also has a 2.8-inch QVGA TFT touch-screen display, a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus and digital zoom, and a QWERTY keyboard positioned beneath the flip-out keypad. The Opera 8 web browser is included, as well as a VPN client, and a trial version of a virus scan package (I guess those cellphone viruses must be making an impact). You can also multi-task on this thing; surf the Internet while talking on the phone, for example (via a headset, we presume). It also has the ability to handle all major push email solutions, multimedia messaging, video streaming, and video recording. The phone itself comes packaged with 80MB user free memory and a 64MB Memory Stick, though a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo is set to come out at the same time as the phone. As is expected, the size is a little hefty at 4.4 x 2.2 x 1 inches, and weighing in at 155g.

Price is unknown, but will probably depend on the service provider. The phone will be available in Q1 of 2006 in Europe and Asia, along with the 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, while U.S. consumers will probably have to wait a little longer. More photos after the jump.

So SE had to get all lawsuity over this? It's a nice looking phone, but come on.
