I'm not sure what I was expecting from Commodore when we first heard they were jumping back into the gaming biz, but one thing I can tell you, it wasn't quite this. Their new gaming line will consist of four models ranging from the entry-level Cg to the top-shelf Cxx. The Cxx will have a quad-core 2.66GHz Core 2 Extreme, dual GeForce 8800s, and 4GB of RAM. Sure it's powerful and it'll probably cost more than your credit card can handle, but other than their name (and those killer paint jobs) there's nothing these PCs offer that you can't get from say Alienware or Dell.

Dells aren't "Preloaded with a C64 emulator, containing more than 50 classic games."
Can it still plug directly into my TV?
All it would really take to convince me to order one of these over a dell would be for them to tell me I can talk to someone who speaks english natively when I have a problem.
So Commodore is making PCs now? I don't get it.
Oh how I remember the days of the Amiga. They were doing innovative things back then. Now? Meh.
They are innovative! I don't see you running around all willy nilly building your very own personal computer / gaming station!
oh....uh...wait, nm. Yeah save a few and homebrew
Price point might be key here folks (but we won't know that till mid April). High end Alienware/Dell computers come at a very steep price. For general gamers who don't know the business end of a phillips head screwdriver, more fish in the gaming-PC pond should be a welcomed addition.
Actually, Commodore made PCs back THEN, too...the PC-10, PC-20, and the Colt. But then, this is far from the same Commodore.

Man, I loved my C64 - Beach Head was the coolest game.
10 print "Oh Yeah!";
20 goto 10;
I welcome those OG's back
will they bring back the spartan so i can run os x too?
Thanks an ugly PC.
Dudes, face it: Commodore is little more than a logo now, like Polaroid. Getting upset about what Commodore's doing these days is like getting upset about your little brother chewing off your dad's head. He's not your little brother any more. That's just his re-animated corpse, the walking dead, a zombie. So blast him with the shotgun and let's get out of here before more of those things are alerted to our presence and start coming after us. And if there really is any small part of your little brother left in that ambulant rotting shell, you'll be doing him a favor anyway.
Does this mean that we can replace games' music with SIDs?
Hey, bitfactory... you've got your BASIC mixed up with your Perl. There were no semicolon line delimiters in BASIC.
I believe there were semicolons - when printing, I think the semicolons caused the 'printing' to display without line breaks, like this:
Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah! (etc...)
Granted, it's been 20+ years since I've touched the stuff - but that's one thing I vaguely remember. :) Whether they were placed correctly is another thing (hard to get ActionScript out of one's mind).
Coool. I'm getting mine painted like a strawberry!
that is definitely who im getting my next pc from as long as they're not as overpriced as dell and alienware!
I don't understand the market for these high-end PCs. No self-respecting gamer would ever buy a pre-built rig. In fact, the most fun you can have on a given day would at least involve unboxing lots of little components and methodically assembling them into the most powerful computer you have ever owned.
"but other than their name (and those killer paint jobs) there's nothing these PCs offer that you can't get from say Alienware or Dell."
So what's wrong with having ANOTHER supplier? Maybe a little competition will do both parties good. Just because their name happens to be Commodore doesn't make them any better or any worse than Dell/Alienware. I wonder, when a new video card comes out do you say, "but other than their name there's nothing these ATI video cards offer that you can't get from say Nvidia"?
