Flying Cars Can't Be Far Behind

Austrian scientists have created the world's first quantum byte! Yes, you read right. The byte, which is comprised of 8 calcium ions, is said to be a first step to creating the elusive quantum computer, a sort of holy grail in computing. These quantum computers are supposed to solve a litany of computer problems in addition to being, you know, really fast. (They're quantum!) The Austrians bested their American counterparts, who were only able to create six bits, two bits shy of that formerly elusive byte. No word on whether or not this will cook your dinner with the push of a button.

The quantum byte is Here! Where is my quantum computer? [I4U]
