Canon's Printer-in-a-Bucket Selphy CP770 is One For The Kids
Canon's new dye-sublimation photo printer is a departure from the boring old box designs: it's basically a bucket, and is aimed at kids. The bucket part unclips, and is supposed to store wires and accessories rather than sand and a collection of worms. The printer itself is designed for easy operation, with big buttons, a 2.5-inch TFT and accepting all varieties of SD card, MMC and MemoryStick and xD too. More » -

Color Laser Printer CLP-315K is World's Smallest, Says Samsung
20% smaller than the previous generation, Samsung is claiming their new CLP-315K is actually the World's smallest color laser printer. It's got a resolution of 2,400 x 600 dpi and can spit out four letter-sized pages per minute in color and 17 in black, and apparently it has improved photo quality output. There's also another small all-in-one edition, the CLX-3175FNK, which has a scanner built in and can scan to and print from USB memory sticks so it can operate PC-free if you need it to. There's no word on release date or price yet, sorry. [Akihabaranews] -

Canon's Selphy ES2 Photo Printer Can't Hold Your Lunch
Though the lunchbox business is long dead, their futuristic-yet-tote-friendly look has made its way to the 4x6 photo printers. Canon's 4.5lb. dye-sub Selphy ES2 is the latest example, with its 3" LCD, an "Easy-Scroll" wheel, simple snap-and-print ink cartridges and built-in clipart for adding cartoon antics to your more somber shots. Now if only the $200 printer came emblazoned with Batman or, say, Josie and some of the tastier Pussycats. [Canon] -

Dymo DiscPainter Is Next Big Thing in Stoner Entertainment
It's an inkjet printer for discs, not the most novel niche product. But the long overdue $279 Dymo DiscPainter prints everything radially as it spins, and it has a clear hood so you can watch the action. The result is mesmerizing, surely no accident coming from the makers of the oh-so-huffable Sharpie. [Dymo] -

Hands-On and Slot Exploration with the Sexy Samsung Printers (Verdict: NeXT Flashback)
Last week we gave you the specs of Samsung's new Windows-, Linux- and Mac-compatible printers &mdash the ML-1630 is a monochrome laser printer, the SCX-4500 a 16 page-per-minute multi-function printer &mdash and yesterday we got to see them for ourselves. Glossy, smooth, they're the kind of printers that make you want to kick off your heels, sprawl on the top and start crooning "Makin' Whoopie." But first of all we wanted to know what the slot at the front of the ML-1630 was, so we beckoned over a Samsung gal... Updated after the jump More » -

Samsung's Printers will Make you Want to Have Hot Desk Sex with Them
Samsung has made its new printers look like works of art. Both models are a deliciously glossy piano black and, while the 11-cm thick ML1630 (above) is a monochrome laser printer, the SCX-4500 is multifunctional. Both of them rock blue LED displays and buttonless sensors, and the custom-designed semi-auto docking slide-out cassette means that paper jams are easily dealt with. Specs are after the jump. HP Intros Two Interesting Printers, Photosmart A826 and Photosmart C8180, Plus Many Boring Ones
HP's Photosmart A826 is that blue egg-shaped printer you may have seen bopping around the web of late. This $250 DIY home photo kiosk with 7" touchscreen is just bizarre enough to tickle our fancy. The Photosmart C8180 is HP's most ambitious all-in-one in a while: For $400, you get integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus a built-in CD and DVD burner with HP's Lightscribe laser-etching label technology. And oh yeah, HP is rolling out like 13 other printers, but none that exude quite the same level of sexiness. [Crave] -

Kodak Invents Photo Ink That'll Last 100 Years
Just before I'm ready to go to bed, Kodak drops news we hinted at yesterday: Multifunction printers pumping a revolutionary ink through their nozzles that'll create prints with an archival life of 100 years, versus standard inkjet photos that go the way of toilet paper after 15. And the ink costs half the price. Half?! We should buy Kodak's new printers simply because they're not trying to fuck us on the cartridge sales.

HP Ink Costs More Than Human Blood, Booze
Gizmodo reader/potential vampire Shaun just popped this interesting graph in our email this morning, comparing the price of HP ink to other various fluids, some bodily in nature. He calculates that a $30 HP #45 black ink cartridge gives you 42ml, pricing out to $0.71/ml. Meanwhile, blood apparently costs $200 for 500ml from the Red Cross, pricing out to $0.40/ml. More » -

Samsung Develops World's Smallest Laser Printer
Measuring in at 15.4 inches wide, 13.5 inches tall and 10.4 inches deep, and weighing 30 pounds is the Samsung CLP-300. This prints in black and white at 17 ppm and color at 4ppm. And rather than having big, expensive toner cartridges, it uses smaller, still likely expensive toner bottles. Even more surprising is the price tag. Only $300 for a color laser printer, what the hell. Back when I was hocking giant color lasers at Staples at a teenager, color laser printers went for well over two grand. Damn, I'm getting old. Epson PictureMate 240, 280 Printers With PhotoEnhance
Just in time for all the beautiful fall foliage around the corner comes two headstrong additions to Epson's PictureMate line of photo printers, the PictureMate 240 and 280. Both printers have far more in common with each other than they'd like to admit (in fact, only the 280's built-in CD drive separates the two), meaning they both proudly feature Epson's PhotoEnhance technology. What does PhotoEnhance do, besides look important on a press release? Allegedly, it enhances the quality of pictures by detecting the type of scene it is (outdoors and indoors and the like) then optimizing it as the situation warrants. Clever, Epson. Very clever. There's no onboard LCD, but considering that you're supposed to actually dock your digital camera rather than just plug in a memory card, it's not that great a loss. Printing takes only about 60 seconds per shot, so it should fit your incredibly busy lifestyle. You'll also find the assorted picture enhacements that Kodak loves to include in all of its digital camera product. We meet again, Perfect Touch. More » -
