If you have an iPod or any portable media player that uses the media transfer protocol, or MTP), you might be interested in the CastGrabber, a charger that can download podcasts and place them directly on the player without using a PC. It even works with iTunes.
As long as there's a network into which you can plug the $99.95 CastGrabber, you can grab your podcasts directly onto the player. All you have to do is set it up beforehand using a PC, and the next time your CastGrabber contacts the internet, it downloads your chosen podcast.
Even though we like its set-and-forget routine, which vaguely reminds us of a TiVo, it seems a bit unlikely that you'd have access to a network but you wouldn't have a PC nearby, but there must be some situations where you might be able to use the CastGrabber. For instance, what if you're a college student in a dorm with internet connections everywhere but you don't have a laptop? [CastGrabber]

No love for the Sansa players.
Even when it's what's in the picture they STILL say Zune.
It doesn't ruin your cred to acknowledge other players you know.
Quite the opposite.
I was harrassing one of the Genius' today, they've become worthless to me with 0 questions answered correctly. I get more info from these comments sections, which is hilarious when you think about the usual content.
Anyway--has anyone figured out if there's a way to utilize the touch/iphone web access to pull podcasts directly onto them? I'm was dismayed that the online itunes store doesn't carry any news items or podcasts. What a waste.
To get an answer I emailed his Steveness, we'll see if I get a response.
Actually, from any PMP/phone with web access? I only mention the touch/iphone because I was testing it out today.
Or, you could just buy a PSP - set the timer and it'll turn itself on every day, download your podcasts and then turn itself off. Word on the street is that games are also available for the device.
I dont own an iPhone so I cant speak directly to your question, but pretty much every podcast has a direct rss link that should work in any decent browser. And there are any number of sites that catalog the feeds - just google around for a good one.
The PSP already does the auto-download of podcasts (both audio and video) without a computer via wifi. Its one of the slickest little-advertised features of that device.
podcastready.com, software sits on my player and i plug it into any pc, mac or linux box. only way to go.
What about the Creative Zen? It is a great MTP player alternative to the iPod. How come it's not recongized like the Zune.
