Carry Your iPod in a Book

Commute? Want to pretend you're learned? Carry your iPod in a book. A Flickr usr came up with a nice DIY to mask your illiteracy.

Step 1. Get a book.
Step 2. Cut holes in it.

Works for just about all MP3 players. Well, maybe not the Zune.

  • i made one of those for my gba sp and used it during school. works like a charm. i want to get a gba micro and make an even smaller one.

  • And having headphones coming out of a book won't look suspicious at all...

  • The thought of carving up a 90 year old book to carry your iPod makes me shudder.........I sure hope it wasn't a first printing. Those cost more than the iPod stuffed into it.

  • I hope I'm not the queen of multiple submissions today... um, that didn't sound quite right.

As I was saying before my previous post vanished into the ether...

Hmm, didn't we just all see this over on Lifehacker?

People over there were discussing the ethics of cutting up a real book, and of keeping the book closed after the pod is inserted.

My suggestion was to go get a nice blank journal with a cover that straps or snaps shut, cut that up instead and insert pod.

I have a Creative MuVo, myself, and it's small enough to put inside the proverbial Altoids tin.

  • Dude, how can you get excited about this. It's just a plain old audiobook.

  • Destroying a book for and iPod? Sacriliege! If you must, atleast make it a book no one will miss... like a county law book circa 1987.

  • why wouldn't it work for the Zune?

Or was that just a weak ipod fanboys attempt to take a jad at its slightly larger size?

    size it rediculous.
PS2 fanboys hated on the xbox because it was huge...and now the 360 is smaller, and the PS3 is huge...and they have gone silent.

And apple fanboys say they hate the Zune because of its size...all while they are thinking that they want apple to make a bigger widescreen ipod...f*ck'n hypocrits.

  • my ipod case looks like a leather wallet... id rather look like i have money than look smart... unless im being mugged...

And you can keep your Sansa in there.

  • This is a good way to prevent thugs for stealing your ipod... Thugs don't care bout no books... they ain't learn-ed.. They probably say to them selves... Why I gots to read fo? Readin's fo nerds! Ai'nt gonna steal no nerd's book!.... Books are like Kryptonite to thugs.

  • May I suggest one of those "Windows for Dummies" books... I have found that most people that bitch about windows have never actually used the help button on the OS, and much less finished reading a book for dummies.
So I would consider those books pretty much useless.

    Option:
Any Barbra Streisand book will also do... actually it would be my first choice to cut.

    :>)

    Wah, wah, wah.

I hear the WAAAAHMBULANCE! And the grammar police!

  • hahaha iomatic FTW!!!

  • I would think honestly that a journal would work better -- at least it would have a clasp or a tie and then once the ipod is inside you would have a way of keeping it closed.

  • Jan 1928 ?? Crazy bastard!

  • Worst lifehack ever.

  • Wow...stupid.

What a waste of an old book. Here's an idea, GET A CASE!

Enough of this "I'm so clever I cut up a frickin book to hide my ipod in so no one will know." Yeah, the earbuds are still white...gonna wrap them in aluminum foil or something next?

And as for size, all current mp3 players will fit in a book, hell you can fit a laptop in an encyclopedia but you don't do you?

  • I know people have said this above...but I really am shocked that someone would carve up a book from 1928 for this...what a waste...to destroy something precious and timeless for something as ephemeral as an iPod that will be replaced in a year as new models come out (as it rightly should be).

  • Wow, I had just been thinking about how my iPod was just way to portable and that the controls were really annoyingly accessible at all times...

    Genius.

  • Because nothing screams "I'm being studious and not listening to music" like sitting around with a closed book with headphones trailing out from the top.

  • the concept of "trace and cut" is infinitely harder than you'd think...goodbye "Book of Notable Quotes." Even though I've never used the book, it hurts to have needlessly destroyed it for something higher up the tech food chain

  • So it's not Fahrenheit 451. It's the iPod that destroyed all these books.

  • Is this evolution?
We went from an Altoids box to a book!

Hmmm, makes me wonder whats next. ...I know, how about carrying your iPod around in the cardboard box it came in?

  • Won't work for Zune because if you cut a portrait hole, you can't watch videos without looking stupid at holding the book sideways (and you thought that Dubya photo...).

If you cut it landscape to watch videos, then the UI's the wrong way, so again you're holding the book sideways or craning your neck.

And I mean, don't you want to show off your Zune so people can send spam^H^H^H^Hsongs to you?

  • ...and holding a book with headphones coming out of it will make you look smart?

The notch for the headphones is in the center of the book, so this wouldn't work for 5G ipods, zunes, or any other mp3 player with the headphone plug on the left or right side anyways.

I'm done with this, enough brain cells wasted thinking about how dumb this seems.

  • All I can say is WOW!!!.......what a dumb ass thing to do
