The Tuned Bear iPod Speaker is Romantic in a Nerdy Sort of Way
It may seem a little strange, but gifting teddy bears to adults is still a time honored tradition. If cute and cuddly isn't your style, a somewhat less emasculating option can be found with this Tuned Bear iPod speaker. The bear can be turned on and off by pressing on his ear and the volume can be adjusted by squeezing the appropriate paw. It's far more functional than your average bear but, alas, it is only available in Japan at the moment. On the other hand, mini vinyl Headphonies might even be a better option—and those are slated to be released at the end of the month. [Rakuten via Technabob] -

The Duracell Powerpack 450 Talks You Through a Jump Start
Because I rarely drive these days, I still roll around in a car I bought 8 years ago. It runs fine, but sooner or later it is going to quit on me. I'll tell you what though, in my situation, the new addition to Duracell's Powerpack linuep looks like peace of mind in a lunch pail-sized box. In addition to jump starting your car, it can power up AC, DC and USB-powered electronics (340 W continuous / 450 W peak). It even has a voice feature that informs you on the estimated runtime for devices that you plug in as well as instructions on how to use its vehicle jump starter and air compressor (150 psi). All-in-all, the 450 looks one seriously useful device for your $150. More » -

Almost A Dealzmodo: Iriver Drops Prices on New MP3 Players
Always classy, always feature-packed, and usually too expensive PMP manufacturer Iriver is dropping prices on their current lineup starting today. We already covered the Spinn's $50 price drop, to $190 and $230 for 4GB and 8GB capacities, and the more entry-level E100 and Lplayer drop $40, down to $70 and $100 for those same capacities. I love Iriver and it's great to see the prices coming out of the stratosphere, but Iriver's gotta bump up those capacities to be a competitor here in the bigger-is-better States. Now, a 16GB Spinn for $230? That'd be a Dealzmodo. [CNET] -

Headphonies: 3-Inch Vinyl Figures Make Unique Portable Speakers
Portable speakers for the iPod are a dime a dozen, but these limited edition "Headphonies" are a little more eye-catching than other generic models. The set includes 5 figures created by several artists (including Frank Kozik), and 2 blank versions that you can decorate yourself. Naturally, you don't expect to get a booming sound with speakers this small, but those who have heard it claim that the sound is "surprisingly good." Each viny toy speaker will sold in 500 to 1000 limited quantities starting on November 30th. Fortunately, Headphonies are fairly inexpensive collector's items at only $30 apiece. Miu's Does-Everything HDPC Gets Stylish Makeover, Atom Processor
Someone with a better sense of product design has been in Miu's offices: the new version of its dual-screened Hybrid Dual Portable Computer actually looks pretty slick (the old one looked like a bucket of bolts, if you remember). It's still packing navigation/computing power/cellphone/media player/kitchen-sink functionality inside, only this time it's got an Atom processor powering it all, alongside an ARM processor for handling basic small-screen tasks, which should add oomph. No news on pricing or availability, but the earlier version was around $500. [Pocketables via Engadget] -

Apple Confirms 4GB Nano
Following the appearance of mysterious images this morning, Apple has apparently confirmed the existence of a new 4GB nano. Speaking with an Apple spokeswoman, Reg Hardware discovered that the company made a “limited number of 4GB iPod nanos for some international markets." Just how many were shipped out and to what countries specifically remains a mystery. Whether this is some sort of test market for a wider launch is also unknown at this time.
