While some folks would like to see the iPod banned, others are turning to it to help keep you safe. LoPresti, an aeroplane manufacturer, will use the iPod as its flight data recorder, more commonly known as the black box. Once outfitted with the proper software, the iPod interfaces with the plane using its dock connector port. The company expects that the iPod will old 500 hours of data on its hard drive.
For once, a company not using consumer technology for the forces of good, though I don't understand why it would choose to use an iPod in this instance. It's not like $350 for 80GB is a good deal, so it's not saving any money. Still, I like the recent trend of all these wonderful gadgets being used to help rather than force you into a perennial game of keeping up with the Joneses.
