Lasonic showed off their prototype old school boombox that has been updated for the new millennium of hipsters.
As Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back put the group into hypnotic pop Nirvana, we admired the 5 band equalizer, USB/SD/MP3 support, DVD drive with display and sweet analog tuner. Hopefully Lasonic will actually bring this to market for their projected $250 pricetag, because we really don't want to "go back to 1985" to relive the experience.

That is totally bodacious!
maybe you don't want to go back to '85, but i sure as hell do!
I had one of these back in the mid 80s. It was kick arse. Also, I think this is the official ghettoblaster of Jay and Silent Bob. (CLERKS)
this. is. bad. assed.
sign me up.
I would buy one of these in a heartbeat.
That's radical dude!
Seriously. I want one.
Why didn't someone think of this sooner? They're going to sell a lot of these.
I want this. Right now.
You had me at "5 band equalizer".
I applaud your retro mobile multimedia solution!
Lasonic? Their boomboxes sucked! All big and ugly and sounded like hell. Gimme a retro Aiwa or Sony or, better yet, a SHARP! They had this wall-of-sound boombox that was GI-FREAKIN-NORMOUS... and loud enough to piss off people for blocks. THAT is what I want. Oh yeah, bonus points to anyone who remembers what the acronym AMS stands for and can explain why it was THE feature to have on yer boombox back in '84 or so.
NickSpatula is right.
This was the same style of Ghetto Blaster from Clerks and Clerks II
AMS
Wasn't that Automatic Music Search? This feature allowed you to skip past the crap Debbie Boone song you had to put on your mix tape cause of yer girlfriend and have it stop dead on the beginning of Clash City Rockers
You've forgotten cramming D cell after D cell into the innards to make it go BROONNNNNKKK. 16 batteries cost more than some of the ghetto blasters running full blast at 25% DISTORTZZZZZHION [sic]. The Wikipedia page has links to a forum for boombox fans, and to a history including the golden age
This is perfect! I want one as soon as it is released. I just hope it sounds good on the B-Ball court yo!
Seriously I'm going to take it to my B-Ball court.
this needs to have a laptop battery in it or somethin...all those D-cells were the only bad thing about proper boom boxes
AMS: automatic music sensor (or search) it detected the gaps in songs on tape, so you could skip songs.
It's bad, you know it.
I need one.
for the Ghetto i think that's cool walking around with it over your shoulder.
but I have no interest in this. if I want music in my room i'll get a 7.1, if I want music on the playground i'll play my player from car, if I want music on walking i'll get an iPOD...
Dude...and its the same price as a video iPod. Between the two, I know which one I'd rather have.
Say did you notice that the Marine types in the gears of war game look like there dressed in a getoblaster.
Just an observation.

Oh, you KNOW I want one.
Well, dag, I think this comment thread is probably a good sized preorder demand group...
this + cardboard = breakdance heaven
It's On.
iPod adapter??? I dont' need a screen and dvd drive taking up space and power, gimme an ipod dock that looks like a cassette deck area, and 2 huge woofers for my boomin, and i'll be straight. And whoever suggested Li-ion batteries above is a genius, someone make this a reality, like 300 watts of boomboxing glory.
I have the Original circa 1985 lasonic "ghetto blaster"
let me tell you when I found it in a flea market I didnt know it was a gold strike just thought it was a friggen cool accessory (for lack of a better word) to own.
I saw it in a Jay and Silent Bob movie so I did some research and priced it as a nice $400+
@Powers: You'll get took for it on the B-Ball court. Everyone loves ghetto blasters.
As for me, I want one and will probably have it sitting about three feet from a big platform of cardboard as I attempt break dancing once again.
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeet, I'd love to buy one of these SOB's! Just blast it full volume Herbie Hancock's "Rock it" and do a windmill. If there's a group buy - count me in!
BTW, from lasonic website, looks like this is gonna happen:
"Ever since the announcement of a possible return during CES 2006, the highly anticipated retro blaster will finally make its 're-debut' at CES 2008! Further details will need to wait until the anticipated convention this coming January! You don't want to miss the unveiling of the past!"
YAAAAAAAAAAI!!
