Sony is developing a system that will allow Arsenal fans the opportunity to watch replays and statistics live on a PSP while at the game. The system is called S.PORT and will be rolled out later this year on a trial basis for 4,000 fans. There is a lot of potential for this system, especially if they expand to other sports and allow other devices, not just the PSP, to view the wireless steams of replays and statistics. Cool system, Sony. Just don't screw it up, please. I really need a reason to use my PSP.
Sony to stream replays via PSP to Arsenal stadium fans [Pocket-lint]

Sony has never played well with "other devices", so don't hold your breath.
Are you sure you want to carry your PSP to a football game? It will get "lost" or broken for sure
neat concept. Beats taking in a radio into the games to listen to the comentary... If it comes to the NFL Dan Sneider will probably charge you $50 on top of your ticket to use it.
They totally jacked this concept from Harry Potter 4.
May we assume all the replay audio will be in French?
What is "Arsenal"? Some type of metric football team?
Zzzzzz.
Too bad they didn't try this a long time ago, the PSP is a tough sell now.
Arsenal is a UK based soccer team, so i doubt the french will have a say here...
But anyhow, there is nothing new to this concept, a (French!)Canadian company already developped a similar product and made a deal with NASCAR, F1 and some NFL teams http://www.kangaroo.tv/
I'm going to start designing flasks that looks like PSP's now, I'm sure to make a million (TM)
This is a joke, right? That stadium is always full of pikeys and thieves. A PSP on display will get nicked within 5 minutes...

No shit.
You see, their coach is French as have been a disproportionate number of their players over the last few years. So their detractors (like me, a ManU backer) like to make fun of their essential Frogginess. Even as we jealously covet Thierry Henry.
Why Arsenal?
Screw them cup stealing in a shootout bastards!
Manchester United Forever.
Maybe Arsenal can use the extra revenue this will surely generate to motivate Thierry Henry, who is surely bitter that Zidane still makes more money than he does in spite of being retired.
finally they're using more of psp's capability, but it's still not best at anything
Why don't they just bung in a DVB-T or -H chip and be done with it? It's got to be easier than creating a new system from scratch. Oh right, DVB doesn't work in the U.S. does it?
So why don't they just bung in a DVB-T or -H chip and be done with it?
It actually seems like a good idea to me, I see it expanding into more "Useful" fields (no pun intended) soon. I am not an Arsenal fan, and I agree that in that particular stadium, it will probably get snatched, but isn't that why it came with a wrist strap? You are all using your wrist strap right? Did you learn nothing from the Wii?
@Carson & bigTrue: You two must be from Essex then!
oh to, oh to be, oh to be a gooner.
The Seattle Mariners already did this for the upcoming 2007 season, except its for the DS. It was pretty impressive when I tried it at Fan Fest in January.
Haha this is interesting and stupid at the same time. Cool that they're trying to roll this out, but as others have said no one's going to want to take out a fucking PSP to watch the game.
Or those people that do are probably prawn eating sandwich goers who never stand up to sing a song and they can fuck right off.
Though if we were still at Highbury there'd be no need for this since every seat had a pretty fucking awesome view. [Sure those people behind the poles could use it but fuck them it's part of the atmosphere]
So it's basically a combination of their locationFREE thing and a webpage, I take it? (LocationFree is a nice idea, but well, limited. Enough so that Sling Media (slingbox) can say "never pay a license fee" because Sony charges for the PC player (they include one license)...)
Stick a DVB-T or H chip in it and be done with it. Assuming they broadcast the game that is.
Also doesn't it rain a lot in England and aren't football fields outside?
Nah, this'll be great, really great .... for the 4 or 5 people who subscribe!
Out of all the big clubs in the Premiership why do they choose the one that's least likely to do anything that would warrant watching it twice? Oh wait, that's Chelsea.
