Red Epic Used to Shoot Sexiest Woman Alive, Kate Beckinsale, at 5K Resolution

Red One vs. 5D Mark II vs. Lumix GH1 Video Test Stuns for Several Reasons

iPhone 3G Red Looks Cool but It's Fake

Ninendo DS In Red Mario Bros Limited Edition On Black Friday
It's not a special Black Friday deal, but DS fans may think it's a bit special all the same: Nintendo's launching a limited edition Mario Red DS bearing the M logo this Friday. It'll also come with a bundled copy of New Super Mario Bros, and it'll set you back $150. There's another limited edition bundle too, mixing up the ice-blue DS with a custom matching-color carrying case and a copy of Brain Age, for the same price...but it sounds like way less fun than Mario. RED Unloads Modular Cameras, a DSLR, 3D and 28k
Rumors of a RED DSLR had been confirmed a long time ago, but what of the Scarlet and EPIC übercamcorders? On the REDUser forums, RED CEO Jim Jannard has explained it all: Scarlet and EPIC are the DSLR — all cameras are "part of the same DSMC system", so each and every camera will be part of a modular, build-your-own, still and video product line based on the Scarlet and EPIC 'Brains'. To do this, RED has furnished an insanely diverse new collection of components, with sensors ranging from the $2500 3k Scarlet to the $55,000, 28k EPIC 617 Mysterium Monstro. More » -

RED Re-Teases Nov 13 Announcement With Camera Ports, More Hyperbole
In case you forgot there's a big RED announcement happening this week on November 13, RED CEO Jim Jannard is again lighting up the RED User forums with another cryptic tease. Saying nothing more than "Not sure what this means..." the outspoken exec lets fly some ports for the company's upcoming übercamera. As CrunchGear rightly notes, we're probably looking at two XLR ports, video outs and a proprietary connector. We'll know all on Thursday. And for all the pre-buzz, the RED people have made some really spectacular gear and we can't wait to see it trickle into consumer level gear. [RED User via Crunch Gear] -

RED Teases Nov 13th Announcement With Cryptic Renders, More Hyperbole
RED CEO Jim Jannard is either an incredible visionary or prone to serial exaggeration. Just yesterday, he deigned to visit the RED forums, promising that "[RED is] doing things we never thought possible... When we do post, it will be very obvious why we needed a bit more time to 'spill the beans'." As a teaser, he decided to spill two of those beans early, in the form of vague, zoomed-in renders of RED's new HIV-curing, hunger-ending, climate-stabilizing übercamera. More » -

Mitsubishi LaserVue vs. Pioneer Kuro Plasma: The High-End Throwdown
The dudes over at The Tech Lounge sat down for a real-world—not canned—comparison of Mitsubishi's cutting-edge, 65-inch LaserVue HDTV with the current reigning champ, Pioneer's 60-inch Kuro plasma set. Does Mitsubishi's fancy new tech really make for a better high-def experience? The tests show, at the very least, that the LaserVue can certainly hold its own against maybe the best HDTV in the world: "You're not going to find a set that is capable of displaying colors quite like this one." That red Xbox 360 controller that we told you about is out now (except it's lacking its rumored green counterpart). Red Scarlet Cam Replaced With a "New Vision"
Red's Jim Jannard has told fans in the RedUser forums to "Wipe your minds of the past announced Scarlet. Forget the design and forget the price. It is all different now. We think you will be surprised." In his words, "the market has changed and we have discovered a lot of things in the process. We have a new vision." So it is not as though the Scarlet cam has been scrapped—what we are talking about here is a ground up redesign that should be a positive thing for consumers. That having been said, the RED EPIC is going to receive a similar treatment as well. More » -

Sprint's HTC Touch Diamond Groped Ahead of Release by WSJ
We've been keeping you up to date on the CDMA version of HTC's Touch Diamond, coming soon to Sprint, but the lucky buggers over at the Wall St Journal got their mitts on one ahead of its launch. It's fatness turns out to be 0.6-inches in size, partly due to that 1,350 mAh battery good for 4.2 hours of talk time. It comes with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition with a Sprint-customized TouchFLO interface plus a bunch of extras like Dataviz's Documents to Go Suite, Opera browser, a YouTube app and it works with Sprint TV and the Sprint Music Store. There's also 4GB of internal memory, a 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth A2DP. The price is now set at $250, apparently, with 2-year contract, and it's now due mid-September. [WSJ via CNET] -

CDMA HTC Touch Diamond Has Release Date, Price, Fatness-Highlighting Red Rear
We suggested the CDMA version of the Touch Diamond had eaten all the pies last week: Now word is out on its release and Sprint and HTC have chosen not to disguise it. Oh no... they've dolled that large rear-end up in a striking red color. Bizarre, though I guess its in the "if you can't hide it, make a feature of it" school of thinking. We can at least partly forgive its 0.55-inch depth, though, which is due to a 1350mAh battery. It's due out August 28th on Sprint, costing $549 for the bare phone, and $299 on a two-year contract. Red Sprint HTC Diamond Spotted?
Maybe it's real. Maybe it's a Photoshop. Either way, here's a red HTC Diamond with a Sprint logo on it. The image goes along with months of rumors about a Sprint-based HTC Diamond—one that will have a more curved case than its GSM counterpart along with a battery boost from 900 mAh to 1340 mAh (over 30%). But whether the image is confirmation of these rumors or just a product thereof is not yet known. [Brighthand] -

Red's 5k, 4k, and 3k Pro Cameras: What the Resolution Really Means
Here's why we're excited about Red's announcements of their 3K Scarlet and 5K Epic digital cameras. Their insane resolution. It's one thing to talk about resolution as an abstract number, but Red has a fantastic chart comparing these resolutions to things you're actually familiar with, like your HDTV or your old SDTV. Even the Scarlet, the most affordable of their cameras, dwarfs your 1080p TV in the way that Wilt Chamberlain's "scoring" record dwarfs ours. [Red] -

RED RAY Drive Plays 4K, 2K HD Video from RED Disc, RED Express and CompactFlash
RED's last announcement for the day is the RED RAY disc drive, which looks like Darth Vader's optical drive of choice. It plays 4K, 2K (Epic's insane 5K looks like it's off the table, but what about Scarlet's 3K?) and 1080p video down through standard-def off of RED Disc or RED Express, plus native RAW R3D files off of a CompactFlash card. It's due early 2009 with Epic and Scarlet, but again "specifications, delivery dates and design are subject to change...count it." [RED] -

Red Scarlet 3K HD Pocket Pro Camera Under $3000
Red's pocket-sized professional camera, Scarlet has made its promised debut at NAB, and it is the tiny hotness. It shoots in heady 3k resolution with Red's new 2/3-inch Mysterium X sensor, shooting from 1-120fps (180fps burst) and up to 100MB/sec REDCODE RAW HD, recording to dual Compact Flash cards. It's got Wi-Fi control (sweet), and all the necessary ports: HDMI, HD-SDI, Firewire 800 and USB2. The 4.8-inch LCD should be more than adequate on this compact HD shooter. Besides coming with an 8X T2.8 Red zoom lens, it's compatible with most Red One accessories. Price? We're hearing under $3000, set for early '09, no pre-orders. But the note that specs and delivery dates could change is a bit ominous, since the Red One saw some delays. [Red, Brochure] -
