Red Epic Used to Shoot Sexiest Woman Alive, Kate Beckinsale, at 5K Resolution
Megan Fox may have been sexy enough to use the 3K resolution Red Epic video camera to shoot with, but the sexiest woman alive needs 5K. Kate Beckinsale is an extra 2K sexier than Megan Fox. More » -

Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive, Filmed at Delicious 5K Super High Resolution
Last year, Esquire shot Megan Fox in 3K resolution using the Red One. This year, they're going to 5K (yes, 5K, meaning you can see her pores) for the Sexiest Woman Alive, using Red's Epic. Here's a (low res) taste: More » -

Red One vs. 5D Mark II vs. Lumix GH1 Video Test Stuns for Several Reasons
I suppose one lesson of this short clip—comparing footage from the Red One, Canon 5D Mark II, and Panasonic Lumix GH1 with a range of lenses—is that a woman in a black dress makes for great test video. More » -

Using the Red One Camera to Make a 'Living Movie Poster'
We've seen the Red One blur the line between DSLRs and HD cameras with Esquire's video-still Megan Fox cover, but this video shows how a photography studio that shoots movie posters has used it to blend photography and video even more. More » -

RED Unloads Modular Cameras, a DSLR, 3D and 28k
Rumors of a RED DSLR had been confirmed a long time ago, but what of the Scarlet and EPIC übercamcorders? On the REDUser forums, RED CEO Jim Jannard has explained it all: Scarlet and EPIC are the DSLR — all cameras are "part of the same DSMC system", so each and every camera will be part of a modular, build-your-own, still and video product line based on the Scarlet and EPIC 'Brains'. To do this, RED has furnished an insanely diverse new collection of components, with sensors ranging from the $2500 3k Scarlet to the $55,000, 28k EPIC 617 Mysterium Monstro. More » -

RED Re-Teases Nov 13 Announcement With Camera Ports, More Hyperbole
In case you forgot there's a big RED announcement happening this week on November 13, RED CEO Jim Jannard is again lighting up the RED User forums with another cryptic tease. Saying nothing more than "Not sure what this means..." the outspoken exec lets fly some ports for the company's upcoming übercamera. As CrunchGear rightly notes, we're probably looking at two XLR ports, video outs and a proprietary connector. We'll know all on Thursday. And for all the pre-buzz, the RED people have made some really spectacular gear and we can't wait to see it trickle into consumer level gear. [RED User via Crunch Gear] -

RED Teases Nov 13th Announcement With Cryptic Renders, More Hyperbole
RED CEO Jim Jannard is either an incredible visionary or prone to serial exaggeration. Just yesterday, he deigned to visit the RED forums, promising that "[RED is] doing things we never thought possible... When we do post, it will be very obvious why we needed a bit more time to 'spill the beans'." As a teaser, he decided to spill two of those beans early, in the form of vague, zoomed-in renders of RED's new HIV-curing, hunger-ending, climate-stabilizing übercamera. More » -

Red Confirms DSLR, Says It's Bigger "Revolution" Than Red One
Red, makers of the famous Red One camera, have confirmed their upcoming DSLR while dropping breadcrumbs of specs for us to gobble up. First things first, don't call it at SLR—it's a "replacement for DSLRs" going internally by the name DSMC (Digital Still and Motion Camera). And if we're reading between the lines correctly, they're teasing that the camera will feature video content above hi def.

Red One Super Video Camera Unboxed
The Red One Camera, which we saw in person back in April at NAB, just got unboxed. Yes, it's the same camera that Peter Jackson used to shoot the Crossing the Line short film proof-of-concept, but he seemed to like it enough that maybe, just maybe, he's buying a crapload to shoot the Halo movie with. Watch the clip to see what you can expect when you grab a Red One for yourself. [HDForIndies via Crunchgear] -

Eyes-On the Red Camera: Real and Beautiful, 4K Support Promised on Launch [UPDATED]
For a while, Gizmodo had been wondering if the $17K Red On 4K camcorder was genuine or just another piece of vaporware. That's why we're glad to see the camera at NAB 07 in front of our faces, with support from Apple, Peter Jackson, and others. We had a chance to talk with Red One "Leader of the Rebellion" Ted Schilowitz, allowing him to calm our worries about the historically problematicever-shiftingshippingtarget dates and 4k support that may or may not be available at launch. [Ed.- While I stand by Stephen's statement and reporting 100%, Ted just wrote in to promise 4k Support out the gate. Minor miscommunication aside, this is exciting confirmation, and we're glad for it.] More » -

Red's 4K HD Video Camera to Work With Apple ProRes: Here's what we know about Red
Red One's compatibility with Apple's ProRes was a welcome surprise. There was some worry on our part, after the Red One camera delays, and after the prototypes were nearly lost to thieves last year. So we're happy to see it taking off like this. Congrats to Ted Schilowitz, and his team. More » -

Red One Digital Cinema Camera Price List Now On Line, Still Not Shipping
The makers of that Red One Digital Cinema camcorder that's supposedly able to crank out 4K resolution—that's super HD rez rivaling film—have finally rolled out a price list today, headed up by the already-announced $17,500 for the camera body. Considering that other cameras that can do similar things cost at least seven to 10 times more than that, that's groundbreaking. But that price is just for openers.

Red One Camera Proto Recovered
In the continuing saga of the Red One ultra-high-definition camera heist, Oakley founder and Red leader Jim Jannard says some of the booty has been recovered:Our trained professional investigators have been able to recover much of what was taken in the break-in. We happily got our aluminum prototype back, a lens, some computers and drives that were mostly personal in nature, and some misc. stuff. What is still out there are computers that had most of the camera related development info.
As for the rest of the stuff? Jannard's team of private eyes and the cops are still on the case. "And they aren't done yet," adds Jannard. More » -

Red One Ultra-High-Def Camcorder Secret is Safe
We have an update on the theft of that wild-looking Red One ultra-high-definition digital cinema camera, the $17.5K camcorder that's said to be packing enough megapixelidge to whip super cameras ten times its price. Oakley founder and Red proprietor Jim Jannard gives us an update on the jacking of the shiny aluminum prototype in the picture above:"While items taken included many computers, drives, monitors, prototypes (including our shiny aluminum IBC prototype), ID files and our Scratch system... it appears that the thieves did NOT get any sensors, sensor information or our primary "Frankenstein" shooting camera. It took all the RED troops coming back in to put all the pieces together. We will resume shooting and testing tomorrow. This would be the easiest piece to identify as stolen."
So this prototype was just for show, and the real secrets contained in the company's Mysterium sensor are safe. Now we can all rest easy. But then, perhaps the secret is that there is no Mysterium sensor. It's a mystery, all right. More » -

Shmancy Red One Camcorder Prototypes Stolen, $100k Reward for Info
Jim Jannard, founder of Oakley sunglasses, and the man behind the high-pixel-count Red One HD camcorder has enemies. The camcorder, which is capable of ultra high-definition (4,520 x 2540 pixels) video in a $17.5K camera, had some prototypes and docs stolen from Red HQ last night. Since all competing gear is no less than $100K, industrial espionage isn't out of the question. Jannard is offering a reward of $100K to find out who stole the cam, and also relieves our pixel-hungry video junkies by saying that the theft won't throw off their '07 launch plans. Thanks for the tip, Curt. More »
