Engineers at Cornell University have designed this odd-looking machine that can rebuild itself and also could perform repairs on itself. This machine is simply a conceptial design for the time being, therefore the reason that it looks like oversized Legos. Check out the video, here, to see the beast in action.

This is extremely hot... But it's more like self-assembly than self-repairing/reproduction, no?
remember in terminator 2 when the govenor of california would fire away at the bad guy...but no matter what he hit him with the dude would re-assemble itself? well...just saying...every piece of technology has to have a beginning...
Not quite what I was expecting... seems more to me like self-reconfiguration than self-reproduction.
this has already been posted on gizmodo guys, i still think its cool but i dont see any real reason that it should exist or whats so incredible about the technology behind it...
Pretty old, but still VERY neat.
This thing is OLD old... but I still love it.
yeah i saw this on daily planet's japan week like last year. it's pretty cool seeing completely lifeless-looking things be as intelligent as these are.
wasn't this already on here before?
Me robot, not only kill humans in future but repairs self too!
Would be a fun remote controlled toy for a 12 year old - besides that...
It appears that when the subjects stack themselves into two columns of three blocks, it causes two more single subjects to magically appear atop the wooden blocks. After a short period of time they become assimilated into the main subjects, and the process repeats. I believe we have witnessed the first breeding of non biological species! But it could just be some clever editing, and would need more scientific testing. More funding required....
wow, that was creepy...and totally mesmerizing. I want one.
These guys obviously don't watch Stargate SG1. The replicators started off as toys, but they soon got out of control and killed their masters. Accident waiting to happen...
