This Limited Edition, German-only, S68 BenQ phone is made from stainless steel, and a back made from ceramics formed at 1350 degrees celsius. It's the same material used in car brake pads, soooo...if you drop it on the floor, it shouldn't get scratched too easily, and it shouldn't slide too far either. Ben-Q may is not best known for its cellphones. So in order to get more marketing love the company has partnered with German-based Siemens to become the second dual-name handset maker (think Sony-Ericsson). To launch the new brand, the company unveiled three phones, the EF81, the S68 and S88—all on the high-end side of the business.

  • The EFG1 is a slim, clamshell 3G phone with tri-band GSM, 2 megapixel swivel camera and dual 262K color display. Also includes 64 MB of onboard memory, a microSD card expansion slot and built-in media player.
  • The S68 is an even thinner, candybar phone weighing in at only 2.8 ounces. Not as full-featured as the EFG1, it includes Bluetooth and USB as well as a 262K color screen and PIM and utility suites.
  • The S88 is also a candybar phone, with a 2-inch OLED display, 2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot for memory expansion. It only has 16MB of memory, which doesn't really support the nice media player it comes with. It does, however, include PictBridge support for direct-to-printer output, but no 3G connectivity.

    Whether we'll see these phones in the US is anyone's guess, especially since Siemens hasn't shown a phone here for the past 2 years and claims to have no interest in the US market until the service providers clean up their act.
