”Dealzmodo: $20 Bluetooth Blowout at Amazon
With more and more states adopting hands-free laws, it may be time to suck it up and get a Bluetooth headset—even if it makes you look like a giant douche. Fortunately, Amazon has a deal going on today only that drops the price of several headsets to only $20. [Amazon]Sprint Instinct Firmware Update Includes Non-Crappy Browser
The Instinct firmware update BH29 was pushed out over the air (a cool feature in and of itself) a few days ago, with one main purpose: fixing the browser with an entirely new codebase. Lame page rendering and navigation were our biggest problems with the Instinct, so this update is definitely worth exploring. Release notes after the jump. [EverythingInstinct] More »Samsung MV100 and MZ100 Consume Even Less Energy than the Korean Sex Cyborgs Presenting Them
Looks like Samsung keeps pushing for green computing. These computers are Korea-only for now, but the MV100 Tower and MZ100 Slim Tower, running on the Intel G43 chipset, consume only sixty watts in "power saving mode" and one watt in stand-by mode. I only have one question for you: Do you really care about how much energy your computer really consumes or you are now just thinking that the Samsung ninjas really need to eat a few pizzas? [Akihabara]Samsung Pixon 8MP Camera Phone Gets Groped
Over at Phonearena they've got their hands on one of those 8-megapixel Samsung M8800 Pixons, and they've given it a good preview prodding. In general the phone went down well: though it's a slightly fat device, the 8-megapixel camera (which shares an identical interface to the Omnia) impressed them particularly in terms of speed, and the multimedia capabilities got a thumbs-up too. They weren't overly impressed by the browser, however, and the lack of menu personalization options, plus the fact that it's not quite a smartphone...being a little more like the F480 than the Omnia. Check out the gallery for pics of the phone and menus, plus size comparisons with some rival handsets. [Phonearena]
Samsung SSD Falls Three Stories, Still Boots Windows
Samsung released a video in which members of their staff threw an SSD off a three story building and then plugged it into a laptop, where it was operational. Though the computer screen at the end of the video gets washed out, you can barely make out the Windows XP desktop. Naysayers and skeptics should also note that once the SSD was thrown off the building, the video was never cut. Not too shabby. [Samsung SSD]Samsung's Nabee Connects Cameras to PCs, Cables Not Required
Samsung's Nabee system is a way of adding Wi-Fi sync-up capabilities to simpler digital cameras that lack them. It uses the Alereon AL5000 wireless USB chipset that operates at 3.1 to 10.6 GHz over a 30-foot range and has two parts: a small dongle that goes into the camera's USB socket and one that goes into the PC. It's due out in December, though there's no info on pricing. [FarEastGizmos]Samsung HZ1: Skinny, Zoomy, Hi Deffy
The Samsung HZ1 is just a 26mm thick point 'n shoot, but it manages to pack in a 10x zoom, 24mm wide angle lens and 720P HD video recording that captures at 30 frames per second. Of course there's all the other stuff you'd expect in a premium camera of this class—optical image stabilization, 10.2MP and semi-useful extras like face detection—but we're just happy to see a small camera avoiding metallic paint for a change. Unfortunately, no word on price or availability yet. [Akihabara News]Vendors Make HDTV Price Cuts, Inappropriate Statements in Response to Financial Crisis
The current state of the economy is unfortunate, but there is a silver lining if you are in the market for an HDTV. According to HD Guru, many HDTV manufacturers have started rolling out discounts to help increase sales. Sony, LG and Samsung are among those offering up to $200 off on select models, while other companies are quietly offering "instant rebates" to dealers with the expectation that savings will be passed on to consumers in the form of sales. As one store manager HD Guru spoke with commented: “this has been the slowest week since 9/11!" Stay classy dude...stay classy. [HD Guru]AT&T Home Manager, Landline Meets Smartphone
AT&T Home Manager is, essentially, a Samsung 7" (800x480) touchscreen device that brings goodies like visual voicemail, email, Yellow Pages, weather reports and a phone-syncable address book to those who prefer not to rely on their smartphone at home. It also doubles as a digital picture frame when not in use by loading pictures from SD or USB. Operating 2 hours per charge, the system (which includes a cordless phone) runs $299 from AT&T in limited markets. Maybe it's not the most mind-blowing device out there, but it could be a handy, reasonably-priced piece of tech for those still clinging to their landlines. The only catch? "Customers must agree to a two-year AT&T High Speed Internet term commitment or sign up for AT&T U-verse TV, High Speed Internet and Voice services." Read on for full details.
